dd2 had viral gastro-enteritis, now I feel VERY sick and nauseous, is it worth trying to fight it?

I think DD has had this too for the last 4 days. Sick, then high temp, then squitty bum. Not eaten anything.
She has lost her little 4 year old pot belly and is very pale.
Her skirt was falling down today.
Has managed to eat a little today and feels better.

It is horrible.

harpsichordcarrier · 08/04/2007 19:38

I know, my little dd2 is so skinny, I can feel her ribs

I hope you stave it off Harpsi.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 08/04/2007 19:53

I had it a couple of weeks ago after DD. It's bloody horrible. Just make sure you have some hydration salts on hand and take it easy. I would also recommend putting some extra towels in the bathroom and flannels (for mopping your brow after throwing up). Also obviously the softest loo rolls you can find!

I was sick for three days and started vomiting blood - apparently this was my stomach lining. Most people get 24 hours of it and then are wiped out for a few weeks. The docs can give you these pills you pop under your gum and they dissolve, which stop you vomiting anymore if it's really bad. But they taste like dirty spoons.

It would help you if you avoiding dairy both now and afterwards if it's going to happen, you can get a temp. lactose intolerance after your do a lot of throwing up. Stick to toast and tea and lots of water. Don't do what I did and try and fight it off with a hot curry, it tastes much worse two days later mixed with stomach acid and blood. (sorry TMI!)

Hope you miss it!

What IS this bug??
Poor you, poor dd, poor dh... Same thing doing rounds here: I have been trying to hide from bug that caught ds (he was sick for a week, and just got better last Tuesday), but it seems to have caught me anyway: have had the worst stomach cramps all day yesterday, and today the D&V started. Strangely enough have been absolutely starving though yesterday eve, so was trying to fight of the urge to eat. Drinking lots of water/dioralyte (sp?) and eating some toast and plain rice. Jummy....
Was thinking it could have been a bad chicken and mayo sandwich I had yesterday lunchtime, in my case. Don't mean to hijack this thread, but could anyone tell me difference between bacterial and viral gastroenteritis. I am having bad sulfur burps and bloody D (sorry probably TMI... ), and thought that was a sign it was bacterial (in that case ds2 is innocent of my discomfort ).

harpsichordcarrier · 08/04/2007 20:09

god, I wich I hadn't asked now
I don't know the diff between viral / bacterial, just that the GP told me dd2's was viral

OP posts:
tinkerbellhadpiles · 08/04/2007 20:10

Honneybunny - you'll kick yourself for asking - one is caused by bacteria and the other by a virus. In terms of symptoms they are pretty much interchangeable - I only know mine was viral because we submitted DDs poo sample to the docs and they analysed it.

It's doing the rounds I'm afraid, but hey, we haven't had a major flu epidemic so something has to come and spoil our pristine bathrooms!

Honneybunny · 08/04/2007 20:13

ROFL, oops, I should have put it differently i guess. What I meant to ask was if you can tell by symptoms if it's bacterial or viral.

SparklyGothKat · 08/04/2007 20:14

We have had this over the last 2 weeks here. DD2 got it first and was sick lots for a day, 2 days later dd2 got it and was sick all night. WE then had a weeks grace, until DS got it, was sick once, but had dodgy poos. Then 2 days after DH got it, was sick all day, had d/rea, for 2 days, then I got it and was throwing up lots, couldn't keep anything down, then d/rea for a few days. It normally last 24 hours. You will not be able to fight this virus, it creeps upon you and Bam!!! nasty nasty virus.

mum2sons · 08/04/2007 20:23

DS2 had the vommitting bug and it lasted about 24hours last week. I got it and it only lasted 24 hrs, just feeling sick, but not sick and a fever. Got over it quickly. Hope you do to

harpsichordcarrier · 09/04/2007 10:59

well I didn't manage to stave it off
v bad night indeed

tinkerbellhadpiles · 09/04/2007 20:27

Oh dear, must be so very hard to vomit while carrying such a large instrument

Feel better soon!

MerlinsBeard · 09/04/2007 20:32

HCC i hope it dopesn't last long

Its been here in the monster house

DS2 had it for 48 hours, a week later DS2 got the sickness for 24 hours then the diarohea (sp?) for another 48 hours, then the next week i had it for 24 hrs and am still not back to normal - v tired and less appetite (altho thats not a bad thing )
