Lower abdomen pain for a week

FellOffMyUnicorn · 01/10/2017 18:01

I have had a lower abdomen pain for a week. It's worse on moving and is a bit like a pulling pain

It's not really one side or the other, bowel/urination is normal

Any ideas?

Does it hurt more if your on your back and lift your legs up if so it could be appendicitis

loveyoutothemoon · 01/10/2017 19:12

Could you be pregnant? This was my first pregnancy sign.

FellOffMyUnicorn · 01/10/2017 19:25

Ok I've laid down and lifted my legs up, no extra pain, just the normal moving one

Not pg am 46 and have a coil
I've 2 dc and the symptoms were not like this

I have exactly this, since Friday so 4th day today. Worse when I move, doesn't hurt if I lie still but comes back as soon as I move. paracetamol and ibuprofen help a bit. Pain all across pelvis and in lower back, no bladder or bowel issues. Today I feel actually poorly, grotty, tired etc so I've got an appointment with the dr later.

I've had pelvic pain before and scans which didn't find anything. I've had a clear smear recently. I got my period the day the pain started but it's not like usual period pains. I am probably peri menopausal and my periods are more frequent but not heavier. In fact this period is weird, seems not to be starting properly and has been brown/light. Can't be pregnant.

Another weird symptom I'm having is twitching of my bum hole and fanny Confused

Gp. Urgently. I had this with a coil and left it. There were other symptoms too (weight loss, discharge, eventually couldn’t feel the need to urinate). It was a pelvic infection and by the time I presented I was septic, very very ill and was admitted for 4 days.

LemonadeWithACherry · 02/10/2017 15:30

Sorry to hijack your thread OP. How are you today?

Just got back from the gp. Urine showed no infection (blood in it but I have my period so disregarded), no temperature which is what I was worried about today. She thinks it could be muscular and advised me to wait and see if it goes away. I woke up with it Friday morning so I don't know how I sprained my pelvic muscles in my sleep!

thanks all

was bad this morning, but eased off now - i had my coil checked last weds and mention it -she said most likely a bug, but keep an eye on...?

i'll see how it is in a couple of days

*felloff” I felt vaguely off for months before it all kicked off. Thought it was anaemia from heavy / long periods from the coil. Go back, get swabbed (not an STI screen, they need to swab for different bugs entirely), and an ultrasound to check the coil is where it should be: mine had moved a little.

FellOffMyUnicorn · 02/10/2017 21:31

Thanks again

No periods to speak of on this coil, it's my 3rd one...

Maybe I’m not clear. I had your symptoms. They were NOT anaemia. My GP fobbed me off. I nearly died. Unless the GP examines you very carefully (physical exam, swabs, bloods and ultrasound) it might not be picked up. Honestly, I didn’t realise how ill I was till A&E wheeled me past the obviously ill people straight to resuss.

FellOffMyUnicorn · 03/10/2017 15:09

All that because it moved a bit? Sorry don't want to sound thick, it was a pelvic infection? (So I can ask about the right thing)

Yep. It’s questionable whether the coil was ever in the right place, but ultrasound while I was in hospital showed it was in the wrong position. The gp who placed it really failed in her duty of care, both in the manner it was fitted, and the way she managed me, as I had early symptoms at my review appointment 6 weeks after it was fitted. It too 8 (!) months for things to get serious.
