ds 7 months, just gettingb over a cough. threw up several times in the night, has runny poo (but does have wet nappies, if only a little bit wet).

I've not fed him anything except bf and water since last night, and he seems better today (although he's tired due to all that night time vomiting), but nappies still not right. should I give normal food again later?

if I was in the uk I'd take him to the docs but they have no emergency pediatricians here so they'd send me to the hospital. and beleieve me, that hospital is an absolute last resort. nhs direct says "call nhs direct".

withh dd I used to go back to just bf and water for about two days until she was sorted, you could try going back to food and see how he takes it, but I'd stick with bf and plain water for a day longer....

At 7 months old, I would keep going with the bm and water if he seems thirsty.

wait until tomorrow for food IMO, he doesn't really need it

I think you are doing the right thing, keeping him hydrated. You could try him with a bit of food. What is it they say here, soft food, which his would be anyway hahaha. Maybe banana or something bland. I wouldn't worry as long as he is drinking.

SenoraPostrophe · 08/04/2007 14:32

righty. will do.

banana a good idea, but I'll see how he is. Really I think I was wondering if I should be worrying more.

I think as long as he's drinking and hasn't got a high temperature you should be ok. It's funny I was only saying to my mum the other day, it's amazing how you let things run longer here, as you know you'll be sent up the hospital, wait for 4 hours only to be told soft food and Dalsy.

SenoraPostrophe · 08/04/2007 15:53

yes, it's annoying isn't it? not that I've ever been sent away and told to give Dalsy (I have had dd rushed in for an emergency op though for something the emergency doc had told me was a bump though.)

But on a weekday the pediatricians are great. how can a system be so good and yet so rubbish?

my ds is 7 months ol and has just (yesterday) recovered from sick and d/rea (cant sp it) he was off his food completely for 2 days, just gave him mlk and water. After 2 days i gave him a powdered veg from heinz (completely against everything i've done so far) but it was stodge but VERY bland. He ate it with no problems and wasnt sick at all.

i hope yor lo gets better soon. btw we took him to the docs ad he said 3 days is no problem at all for a lo to go without food, and even said to weaken the strength of his milk if that makes him sick (ff) because it is the fluid he neds (in which ever form ds would take it!)

HTH!

BRAT diet? (bananas, rice, apples and toast!)

That happened to my friend, the emergency dr said her dd had a bump and sent her packing. Said friend took dd to Costa Del Sol , they x rayed her leg and sent her packing. Friend wouldn't take no for an answer and discovered that they had xrayed the wrong leg. When the right leg was eventually xrayed , it was broken [shock.] Saying all that though I had a fantastic treatment when I gave birth. You are so right about them being rubbish and good at the same time. I'm convinced the emergency ones aren't trained or have been struck off.
