It's really hard to explain the feeling but when I get a migraine I sometimes feel like it's in my stomach.
Am I weird??

I've been nauseous when I've had migraines but never solely in my stomach. I have taught children who suffer from stomach migraines though; it is an actual diagnosis if that helps?

My dm and dsis both have epic migraines that always involve lots of vomiting.

I don't get really bad migraines like I've read some people have on here.
I'm never sick but I get such an odd feeling in my stomach whilst I have a migraine.
I wish I understood it?

TMI - I sometime get the feeling that my stomach has gone on strike if I get a migraine. It feels very delicate. If I eat I sometimes see it again. I have to take soluble paracetamol for the headache as if I take tablets they don't stay down for long.

My bowels go weird when I get migraines. I've been under neurology for over 20yrs with them, apparently it's a parasympathetic nerve thing.

soimpressed · 28/09/2017 20:27

According to my doctor the stomach stops working when you have a migraine. That's why you have to take soluble medication as soon as the symptoms start otherwise the meds won't work.

Other than nausea and vomiting migraines seem to shut down my digestive system. TMI but the after effects last for days afterwards - feeling very foggy and not being able to go to the loo. I bloody hate migraines.

Think it is called Gastric Stasis. Husband has to take migraine medication very quickly or his stomach can't process it.

I know what you mean and get them occasionally. My migraine started like this as a child.

NickMyLipple · 28/09/2017 20:45

I think it's fairly common for children to have abdominal migraines.

ihatethecold · 28/09/2017 21:13

I've taken a sumatriptan tablet and 2 aspirin but I still feel weird

This is really interesting. I didn't know meds didn't work if you didn't take them early enough, it makes sense now.
My DD is 5 and has been diagnosed with abdominal migraine, the doctor said its common in kids if their parents suffer migraines
As my migraines wear off I'm always starving and crave greasy/salty food. I don't really eat it at other times.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/09/2017 21:52

You have a very short window to get them down you ! That’s why injections and nasal sprays can be good (but really expensive) .

Gosh yes. I have had a fair few stomach migraines. I remember my first one as a child and we had to get the doctor to confirm that's what it was because my school didn't believe my mum they honestly thought she made it up.
I end up in bed for a few days when I have an attack. Really not pleasant at all.

This. My stomach stops working during a migraine. I generally sleep off my migraines so when I wake I feel blissfully almost recovered. With one migraine recently when I didn't manage to sleep I actually felt my stomach 'come back to life'. It was an odd feeling - not unpleasant but odd.
