I've been very sad and can't get out of it. And there has been a lot of stress

After a terrible few days when everything became too much to deal with I finally went to doctor and he has prescribed these tablets

I have taken antidepressants previously a number of years ago when I lost my mum and struggled with things. But they were different ones and they initially gave me panic attacks . Because I have a young toddler he thought that they might not be best because of the panic attacks.

But I've just read the side effects and I'm shitting myself. Can anyone put my mind at ease,

Please

I'm on Sertraline for the second time. The first time was for PND and I cried when I took my first one as I was terrified of the side effects. In reality it was fine and worked so well for me. I felt slightly sick and tired for a few days and then felt normal.

I am on them again now for a second round of PND after DC2. This time I didn't have the nausea but had a few weeks where I would wake up very early. This passed too and I have no side effects now.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Foreverhopeful22 · 27/09/2017 21:33

Oh thank you. My doctor has said one a day but it doesn't say morning or evening and it says about insomnia so I was thinking of taking in morning

I took 100mg of Sertraline a day for PND in 2014 and it really helped me. I remember feeling a bit speedy in the first few days, just be kind to yourself, spend time at home if you can and take it easy. I always took the tablets in the morning in case of insomnia but never seemed to affect me. Can honestly say, just ride out the first few days and the benefits are definitely worth it. X

Oh my see that's my worry

You could perhaps build them up, cut them in half and take 25mg each day. They may not affect you too much at all and am sure the long term benefits of taking them will outweigh feeling a bit odd for a few days. Hope you feel much better soon.

Mumof41987 · 27/09/2017 21:52

I started them 6 days ago . Iv Had nausea but no other side effects . Every medication has a huge list of side effects so don't worry too much

IncognitoAvocado · 27/09/2017 21:54

I built up from 25mg for a week the first time. Also, i find taking them in the morning to work best for me. I tried taking them at night but I was very tired the next day.

Back2workanxiety · 27/09/2017 21:59

I was the same before I started, I put it off for so long but I'm a month in on 50mg now and I feel a lot better! The side effects only last a few weeks while your body gets used to the medication

There's a sertraline buddies support thread come over and chat with us we're all going through the same

Foreverhopeful22 · 27/09/2017 22:01

I wasn't o sertraline for long as the doctor decided I was better suited to peroxatine (I wasn't. but stopped it and now on nothing) I loved sertraline! made me feel like a human, bouncing off the walls after a coffee though (which I enjoyed)
they have to list basically everything in a side effects leaflet to cover their own backs mainly. I would give it a go, give it chance to work and if it doesn't suit you, there's lots of the options

Honestly it's fine. You might feel a bit jittery for a few days but not so terrible that you can't deal with every day life

Thank you.

I've taken them for two days and so far so good. And to be honest I think they are helping as today I didn't get half as anxious or ratty as I normally would and not streaming with tears when I dropped my pasta on floor

So hopefully they are working

I'm struggling with nausea and now day 10 . When will it ease off

hedwig2001 · 01/10/2017 11:26

I started in April. Felt sleepy and a bit nauseous for a few days.
Once they kicked in they worked really well. I feel better than I have for years, like a better version of myself.
Bear in mind it takes up to 6 weeks for the drug to take full effect, so don't give up.

Twinklyfaerieglade · 01/10/2017 11:38

Used to work in the pharmaceutical industry. Patient information leaflets have to include almost all side effects experience by anyone who was involved in the clinical trails stage of the development of any drug. A lot of side effects are rare and will only be experienced by a small number of people. Also many effects are transitory as mentioned above.
If you are struggling, the benefits of taking an AD will almost certainly outweigh possible side effects. If you are vv unlucky Sertraline might not suit you but another AD probably will.
Good luck

PinkCrystal · 03/10/2017 20:18

They can be life changing when they work well for people. I know of 3 such people.

Don't worry too much over side effects list. However there may be some stomach upsets for a few days and they take up to 6 weeks to work.
