Thyroid issues - confused!

I wonder if anyone has any knowledge or experience of thyroiditis. What does it mean if ultrasound scan shows some enlargement or swelling 'consistent with thyroiditis' as they put it BUT the blood tests come as normal?

Also I have a few weird symptoms like mild discomfort in the neck near thyroid, pounding pulse (mainly feel it in the head at night but also heart palpitations on/off though not very fast), dry mouth at night, mild aneamia but that has now got to normal after taking iron. Could the iron (low dose) cause pounding pulse rather than thyroid?

I've read also that thyroid causes 'fuzzy thinking' - there's def something dodgy, not fuzzy but I'd say concetration is not great and an overactive busy mind - e.g. whatever I watched/heard in the last few days keeps coming up in my mind like a constant stream even if I'm busy doing/thinking of something else. I do hope I'm not going mad or getting early dementia! Or can it be with peri-men hormones?

If it does sound like thyroid, then how do I get a treatment if tests show ok! I'm due to see my GP but not this week and am getting anxious. I don't want to be fobbed off when I do see GP so would be useful to have some knowledge.

should add that I do have a slightly raised inflammation marker (been months) but ANA showed as normal a while ago, GP wasn't sure what the inflammation was to do with but said as it's mild could be anything. Oh and I also get overheated hands when it's hot or I ve been exercising/body heats up. GP thinks may be autoimmune and now it looks like poss thyroiditis but - normal tests.

Have a look at ThyroidUK or TPAUK. Good websites for people with thyroid issues.

Margo thank you I did read NHS page about it but there is no mention of blood tests being normal - they mention that it shows on BTs.

Best ask for your thyroid blood test results and post them on healthunlocked/throiduk. The ranges are broad so although they say it's normal, it might actually be an indicator of a failing thyroid. Also get your thyroid antibodies, b12 and vit d tested too. They cam cause similar symtons

TPAUK has a forum that you could post the results on. Lots of helpful folk there too.

thank you, Looks and Margo, I will once I get the printout!
Interesting re D and B12, I've started taking D already as it's good for all sorts of issues - though not sure of the dose - I've been told (not my GP but a doc I know) that it's best to take a max dose - not sure if that's 1000 or 2000 (which gets recommended online).
Don't think they've tested me on B12, will ask - thanks!

Good luck with it. Vit D dose depends on your level. 2000 to maintain it works for me but when i was deficient, GP prescribed 3 months at 5000.

LoveforPGTipsMonkey · 29/09/2017 00:51

wow that's a lot, Looks! but that's for underactive, GP indicated that it might be over-active for me according to scan (IF it's thyroiditis) but as I say, blood tests came 'normal' - waitingto see exact numbers. Did you have obvious blood tests results?

and thank you!

That was my vit D dose. I'm on t3/t4 combination meds for underactive thyroid caused by hashimotos. Have your antibodies been checked. You need to know your blood results to see if you are bordering under or over active. GPs aren't always that knowledgeable about thyroids. Are you seeing an endocrinologist? I think lots of things can cause a pounding heart but getting iron, ferritin, b12, vit D halfway through range definitely helped me alot. the low end of ranges aren't optimimal.
