I don't know if anyone can suggest anything i can take to make me abit more lively. I don't even have young children but i am permanently exhausted. I work part time and have my kids/house to look after, my dh is useless at home and really doesn't DO anything. It is getting to the stage where i have to have a sleep when i have just been and got the weeks shopping and if i plan a day out i have to make sure i have a quiet day the day before and the next day to recover. This sounds as if i am really lazy but i am not, i've always taken pride in my house, but that has gone to pot, i just can't get the energy to do much at all. Have just bought some multi vitamins and iron, do you think they will help? Anything anyone can suggest will be great as this is really getting me down, i feel sad all the time now.
Thanks anyway.

Short answer:- (I tend to go on a bit!) Go to gp and ask for a blood test to check for thyroid function and iron levels. If that comes back clear, don't accept that you'll just have to get on with it, ask your gp what you can try/do next. Hth.

Thanks simplysparkling. Does a thyroid problem make you tired then, does it also make you put on weight? Sorry, acting as if you are my doctor!! I will make an appt. on Tuesday, i can't put up with this much longer.

ditto simplysparkling sounds like thyroid or anemia or both - yes, thyroid does make you put on weight if yours is underactive. Overactive thyrois makes you lose weight. Anemia makes you feel absolutely exhausted if left untreated.

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 14:50

There is a website for the thyroid. Found it:- British Thyroid Foundation, btf-thyroid.org; for an info pack write to BTF, PO Box 97, Clifford, Wetherby, LS23 6XD. There was an article in the Body and Soul section in the Sat Times March 17th though there is lots of info around. Hth.

Oh, some people have difficulty in taking iron tablets, I think, so perhaps you should read up on that before you get your results back (once you've had the test done, that is) so that you know what questions to ask.

LazyLine · 07/04/2007 16:19

How are you sleeping at night?

EllieKthePA · 07/04/2007 16:23

ime the gp is likely to try to fob you off, tell you tiredness is common, don't them him/her!

i took me 10 months of being told to go home, having test after test, seeing me consultant, before they finally discovered I have Narcolepsy. by this time i'd failed A-levels (bit difficult to pass when you sleep through the exam )

blossomsmine · 07/04/2007 23:57

Can't beleive how much help you have all given me, thanks. EllieKthePA, that is terrible for you, hope you are ok now?
Lazyline - regarding the sleeping, well this is the thing, like i say i am always tired but i just don't seem to sleep well at all, like now it is almost midnight but not worth going to bed yet as i won't sleep and if i do it is so lightly anything wakes me up again.
I am going to go and have a look at the thyroid website now, thanks SS.
I also have this real problem with doctors and hospitals, had abit of a bad experience in hospital after i had my dd1 but even before that i get abit panicky when i go to them. As for doctors i just feel as though i am wasting their time. Although i know i must feel bad because i am GOING to be brave and make an appointment. Thanks it is so nice to be able to talk to people about this without feeling like i am being selfish/stupid.

You sound like you may be lacking in B vitamins, B vitamin deficiency makes you tired, down, cant concentrate etc..

Try a Vit B complex

vixma · 08/04/2007 00:17

Any chance you can have some u time. You going out for the day, save for a night in a cheap hotel, go on your own to a beach anything, do a short course, rediscover you. I know this sounds hippy but it sounds like you need a little unselfish time out. Go for a massage or get your nails done, gym, see sights anything. I might be wrong but just a suggestion. Just rediscover who u are as a wonderful mum but also as an individual who exists on this plant....you sound tierd and run down, your not just a great mum.

vixma · 08/04/2007 00:18

sorry planet

fussymummy · 08/04/2007 00:37

I have under active thyroid and can feel exhausted at times.
Definately get a blood test as already said.

Is there any way that you could have depression?

This can also make you feel tired!

blossomsmine · 08/04/2007 23:38

I will be trying the vit b thanks. I think you have all helped me here, i may well be abit depressed don't like to admit it really though as that makes me feel abit well, weak i suppose. Sorry, no disrespect for anyone suffering from depression, i just have a BIG problem with getting help from people i think. This taking ME time would probably help and also would help the depression, if i am suffering from that, i just feel to take ME time is abit strange as there is always something/someone else here to do things for. I am sure you understand being parents yourself. I really need to accept help/advice i think. Thanks everyone.
