Is there something wrong with me? (Various Symptoms?)

This has been something I have tried to ignore and "get on with" for a while now but it's really getting on top of me.

I'm 26 and have experienced a number of things regarding my health over the years that make me think it could all be linked. I shall list them below:
-When I started my job 2 years ago Occupational Health took my blood and tested it. They told me I had no immunity to things I was vaccinated against as a child. They told e sometimes this happens and I wasn't too concerned.

  • I have had chicken pox twice, both times quite severe and diagnosed by a doctor.
  • Whenever there is a cold/stomach bug going round I will catch it and a lot of time can get really sick and knocked off my feet with it.
-I am constantly getting cystitis and kidney infections. -On the few occasions I have had blood tests (for things like Iron levels, thyroid) I have been told my white blood cells are high. The last time a doctor told me I raised this question and he shrugged and said "Well I dont have the other results to compare to"
  • I always feel so exhausted even after a night's sleep. I could easily nap for hours on end and still go to bed at the same time.
  • Most worryingly, and what has prompted me to seek advice, is I've developed a pea sized lump in my armpit. It doesn't hurt but it's quite prominent under my skin.

Im very prepared to be told that I am overthinking this. I just want to know that I wont sound crazy going to the doctors with the above symptoms.

I am purposely not googling the symptoms as I know that can make my anxiety worse.

I think you need to take this list to your GP. I absolutely don't think you are overthinking things. Even if you are generally prone to catching bugs/feeling tired etc the lump alone needs checking out. Fingers crossed it's all easily dealt with.

I can understand your anxiety, but as you're generally a sicky or run down person I'd say the lump is likely your lymph node - they commonly become swollen when someone is run down. I would just go and get everything checked though to be safe. Do you get fresh air, exercise and eat well?

TheWartyOne · 22/09/2017 12:12

Thank you for the replies, I work in an office so I am not outside as much as I like. However I exercise regularly (mostly swimming) and I think I eat well. I'm not overweight, I rarely ever drink and I dont smoke.

Could the swimming pool be contributing to the cystitis? Some swimming pools give me thrush straight after using them if the chlorine levels are very high. Make sure you do a pee straight after coming out of the swimming pool and after intercourse.
I would also start keeping a diary or mark on a calendar exactly when you get bugs and cystitis etc, so that you have an exact record.

Hi OP ,

have you had your Vitamin D levels checked? It sounds like your immune system is struggling to cope. Vitamin D is well known to be an immune system modulator.

If I was you , I would get it checked , either by a doctor , or you can get a quick private blood spot test, which you send to the NHS Lab at Sandwell West Mids. Unfortunately they do charge £ 28 if it is not doctor ordered. www.vitamindtest.org.uk/ Results emailed back within a week.

Vitamin D deficiency is a great problem , many many people suffer from it , particularly westerners , particularly westerners that live at our latitude ( 50 + degrees in the UK ). Sunlight , which produces most of our vitamin D in the skin is too weak for 6 months of the year , over winter in the UK. IF you find that your problems are worse in winter or spring then that might be a further indicator that you are in fact deficient.

Here is a thread with a lot of information about Vit D.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2421492-Vitimin-D-can-it-have-this-effect .
It is a long read , but shows how people felt ,what they did , how vitamin D helped etc. etc.

If you turn out to be deficient , and want further info or help, just get back to me. I have posted quite a bit here on Mumsnet about Vit D , just search my username...!

Best of Luck

BTBH

PS. Blood levels below 75 are poor , Levels between 75 and 100 are not really good enough , above 100 is where most vitamin D researchers would want you to be. See the explanation in my other posts.

I'm sorry to scare you but I think I would want to rule out cancer as a few of your symptoms are symptoms of

It definitely sounds like you've got low immunity - maybe ask for immune function testing?

You do need to go to gp and say what you've said here

BeyondThePage · 23/09/2017 14:08

Pernicious anaemia can display some of the symptoms too. (Folate/B122/Iron too low), do your joints ache too? feel foggy sometimes?

Would go to GP and ask for a blood test.

p.s. if it is, it is easily diagnosed and easily treated. It is also hereditary, so check with parents - would give an initial indicator..

B12 not 122!

widowtocricket · 23/09/2017 15:10

Yes I would get your vitamin d & b12 tested. Lack of these vitamins can have a massive impact on your health, but sadly they are often not picked up on by the gp.
I complained for 3 years that something was wrong & my Gp dismissed me until I found out about B12 deficiency. Turns out I was massively deficient & had been for years.

I would go back and ask for a thorough review, all seemed ok ish until you mentioned the lump under your arm, it needs checking. It could well be absolutely nothing at all but personally I'd want it looked at. I had a lump in my lower neck checked out, turned out to be fine but glad to know it was ok so I could relax.
