Bleeding after sex - marina cook talk me down please

I'm in a state. I get severe anxiety so PLEASE positive stories only and don't flame me.

It's been going on a while - spotting that occurred a day or two after intercourse.

I have a marina coil so don't (or didnt) have periods. Even before that my periods were erratic.

This has been going on for a while and now I'm scared I've left it too long.

It took a while to put two and two together. The spotting has been going on at least two years and I seem to recall this happening previous to my previous smear which was clear. That was in 2015.

Went to Dr today and he has referred me for ultrasound and vaginal swabs.

I was starting to believe this was periods as it started to happen with monthly intervals. I have also been getting symptoms of periods so sore breasts (really sore!) And feeling horny in the week before the spotting takes place. Lately this has been followed by a week "period" although bleeding not heavy it was just when I wiped. I would say that this didn't occur until two days after intercourse (often the case) so was it connected. Stopped bleeding yesterday I think. Had sex this morning and then there was fresh blood later when I wiped.

I've stuck my head in the sand for so long through fear and now I'm terrified that anything I have won't be treatable.

Dr wasn't my gp but was so lovely and patient as I could barely speak. He said that he suspects it's the marena coil but wants me to have the tests anyway - I think he was being kind. I asked if I was in trouble and he said no but well he probably wanted the blubbering wreck out of his office.

Not sure how I'm going to get through the waiting. I assume the u/s will be within 2 week rule but didn't ask.

Fuck

And it's good the nurse said it looked healthy too. I imagine it is the coil causing the issues. It is only licenced for 5 years use which is why I had to take the mini pill alongside it after it technically expired in march.

I bet your glad it's out pixie - I was sorely tempted to let the nurse take it out but I thought I should wait for the scan.

From googling it can be left for 7 years if put in after the age of 45

My scan is today. I have to work. I can't do ir

Is it an ultrasound? That's not too invasive. I had to have one as well. It was funny as they didn't take you by appointment time but by how bursting you were for the toilet! (Had to have a full bladder for it). It showed my coil was in the correct place. Think they looked at ovaries and other things too

LEMtheoriginal · 29/09/2017 07:37

I've had the procedure before pixie - oh the poor bladder. Mine is weak at the best of times. Blush

I should have swapped my day off but we are in the middle of major upheaval at work but I don't think I'll be of much use.

I do really appreciate your support pixie. I'm just so scared they will find something

The scan was ok. The sonograhper was lovely. She said I have a small cyst (functional) on one ovary but that is incidental and might just be ovulation. She wasn't concerned about it and neither am I.

So my coil apparently is too low. It is sitting about halfway down from where it is supposed to sit and whilst she stressed she isn't a Dr she said she suspects this might be the cause of the problem and that will be what she puts in her report to my gp. Dp came with me and when we got outside he said "so that's what I could feel" is said excuse me? "Oh I think I've felt it a couple of times but didn't want to freak you out" HmmHmm err righto. Twat.

I hope that means an end to any further prodding and poking. Apart from when they take the fucking thing out.

So pleased it went well Lem. Hope you are having a relaxing weekend after all that you've gone through recently.

I've had a coil for 3 years, and I still have very light periods, and the occasional ovulation bleed. At my last smear the nurse told me that the coil can cause random bleeding, even bowel movements can affect its position and cause a slight bleed.
I've actually got less intermittent bleeding with this than I did on the pill and with my natural hormones (it was pretty much constant spotting). I had all the tests, but it all came back fine (although the doctors never seemed very concerned due to my age, which is disturbing considering the very young women you hear of getting cervical cancer) , I just got used to only wearing black pants!

Glad it went well and hope it has put your mind at rest a little. Is your plan to get it out and not replaced?
My bleeding seems to have tailed off now. Just need dh to get the all clear after the snip and I won't need to take any hormones (although it would mean I would get periods again)
