As the title suggests...self diagnosed and I'm 99.9% sure this is scabies. I have all the typical symptoms yet my daughter has non. Treated us both this AM with Derbac - bedding has been thrown away or washed at 60 degrees along with clothing. I have no dryer so it's been a nightmare. After literally spending the day reading online the horror stories have scared the C out of me! Anyone out there have success stories that didn't involve burning clothes, bleach baths and selling their car?!

DS had it in reception class. The cream cleared it up completely within days. None of us caught it from him.

Thanks for replying. Did you wash/re-wash and wash again all bedding etc? I have anxiety as it is and this is sending me crazy!

Hand it a couple of times, vile things. Wash everything you have worn in the last 4 weeks and whatever you can't get in the wash put in a black bag & tie it up tightly until you can wash it.
Wash bedding again, could you take it to a launderette to tumble dry? Throw away shoes you've worn barefoot unless they can be washed. Vacuum all carpets, your mattress, everywhere! I used a steam cleaner on some of my clothes actually.
Apply the cream making sure you're completely covered and it's under your nails too. Make sure you haven't showered before applying and wait at least 8hrs before washing it off.

I think that's everything.

It's shit and I dread getting it again.
Oh, remember to reapply the cream a week later. Make sure every bit of your body is covered! They are relentless bastards. And don't touch anyone!

AdalindSchade · 18/09/2017 21:25

Don't panic! Cream up you and dd and wash everything you've touched after creaming and you'll be fine.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 18/09/2017 21:26

I had it about a year ago. I changed bedding, hoovered the mattress and covered myself in the cream. It killed the buggers and no one else in the house caught it.

Mumoftheone · 18/09/2017 21:38

Jesus this is going to take a lot of washing! I can take to laundrette but I work full time (took today off to clean everywhere etc) so finding the time is going to be hard and I'm scared that washing here then moving into my car might just re-infect the washed stuff?
Say I wore something 4 weeks ago and it's been washed and hung up since then so I need to re-wash it? I read online that the mites can't live off a human body after around 78 hours?

Oh and the stuff I can't wash I'm keeping in double black bags tied up - do they need to be out of the house?

They just need to be tied tightly so they die. Yes to washing any other clothes the ones you've worn have touched or been near. It is a complete nightmare.

I got it after a holiday (obviously via some grotty bedsheets) and only came out in the bites after I had washed the Everest of holiday washing. I only have a combi washer/dryer, so the dryer is rubbish. It took weeks to get through the mass. But you need to because they are persistent little shits. Some people are carriers but don't show signs so you do still need to treat your family.

1wokeuplikethis · 18/09/2017 21:47

If you did use a launderette just bag up your washing in fresh black bags before putting them in the car and use more fresh bags to transport it back home.

Mumoftheone · 18/09/2017 21:54

Iv been through two rolls of bin bags and 10 disposable pairs of disposable gloves moving and cleaning stuff. Bagged all kids teddies that had been on the bed.
It's awful isn't it - I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy! Then the horror stories online just make it a thousand times worse.
I can't determine where Iv got it from really, I was in Ibiza in July and then a few weeks after went camping but as no one else wasn't showing signs I didn't think much of the itchy hands then around a week ago I noticed the spots and the burrows (ewwww)

I got it the first time from staying at a lovely friend's lovely house, I never told her but there wasn't a chance I'd picked it up anywhere else. The next time I got it from holiday bedsheets and it showed up much much quicker.
I think the firststime you get it there's an incubation period of about 3-4 weeks, but I'm sure that's come up in all your googles.

Good luck op, just wash everything like you are doing and know it will be over soon!

Mumoftheone · 18/09/2017 22:22

It automatically makes you feel dirty doesn't it! il probably be back on to vent/moan/grumble - I don't want to speak to my friends about it for obvious reasons!
Thanks for your replies - greatly appreciated

One other question (probably won't be the last) did anyone notice fresh spots/bites post first application of Derbac but prior to second application? I washed it off this morning using tee tree and wasn't itchy but this afternoon I can't stop and Iv got fresh spots popping up :(
