Unexplained sickness in 4 year old

My dd got terrible food posioning last summer, she got campbolyactor (sp) whilst on holiday. she was sick every two days for 2 months! enviromental health confirmed it all but it still came as a bit of a schock. Anyway for the past two weeks she has been sick every two days again, she is not ill and she has no diarreha (sp) (sorry am running late so rushing)doctor said possibility that food posioning may be still within her, so we have sent sample off but due to bank holiday etc we wont know until next Wed/thurs.Doc has given her some antibiotics to see if it will kill off any badness inside her.I just feel so sorry for her and so helpless when she is sick. I know this isn't a bug and I can time when she is going to be sick as it is just a pattern at the moment. Could go on but haven't time and am close to tears - am starting to worry that it could be something else more serious or that the food posioning has damaged her insides, has anyone got any knowledge about this? Wont be back on until this evening so apologies now.

Paleness?
Sleepiness?

My 8 year old has abdominal migraines and before it was diagnosed... and before he started on medication he was being sick often.

HAve no knowledge about food poisioning though...nad i have never heard it being in someones system for so long!..you learn something new every day!

Hi Thanks for answering Twinmummyx2.Have just managed to get back onto the computer.
Yes she does go very pale, and is also tired usually just straight after she has been sick.
I am just praying that these antibiotics will kick in and work and that they don't make her any worse. She is so looking forward to Easter but I am going to have to withold her Easter Eggs until we know what is wrong with her.

if anyone else has any ideas really appreciate it, if not please can you just send her get well vibes

Thanks

I hope she feels better soon, vicksie.

I don't have experience of bacteria in the stomach like this but I've just had bacterial pneumonia for the second time in 6 months and it's turned out that the bacteria had never fully left my system after the first bout, despite having had 3 courses of antibiotics at the time. This time I had 3 lots of antibiotics before I finally got a sputum test result back which showed which bacteria it actually was and now I'm on a specific antibiotic.

I'm saying all this waffle because I suspect that your dd may need a very specific antibiotic to get rid of whatever bugs she's got living in her gut.

Poor thing. Keep us posted as to how she gets on?

Thanks imaginaryfriend, what you are saying does makes sense, my doctor did say that after she has stopped been sick to get some of the special yogurts that put good bacteria back, or that do something like that. I just want her to be alright now, enough is enough, will keep you posted.

Good luck vicksie, and love to your dd xxx (mine is 4.5)

hi, sorry to hear about your dd. I can't offer any solutions , but I just wanted to say that we are quite concerned about our dd who is 3.4 years. She seems to get sick about every 3 months, and is sick every 2-3 days for about 1-2 weeks. Its very odd. The doctor cannot shed any light on why this may be happening. I think she must just have a very weak stomach and very prone to bacterial infections. We have begun giving her actimal yoghurt drinks, and we are very scrupulous about her washing her hands with antibacterial soap after the toilet all the time. It sounds very similar to what your dd is suffering from, and can totally sympathise with you, it worries me no end that there is something really wrong, but cannot find any information about it. Wishing her better soon

Thanks claire74 have just managed to get back on computer so aorry for late reply, your dd does sound similar to my dd.Big hugs because I know how worrying it is.

The doctor prescribed a short course of antibiotics (Erythromycin) but tbh I think it is making it worse, she has been sick every day now since starting and also is very tired. She has only a day left to take them but tbh I am wondering wether to bother and just stop them completely? I can't ask the docs as wont be open until Tuesday, do you think NHS direct would be able to help, Oh I don't know what to do for the best ...Nothing seems to be working. she is so sad about the sick and is starting to develop a real complex about it...

Thanks for reading anyway.Cross fingers that the sample may come back with more clues next week.

I hae no idea what may be going on but please do complete the course of antibiotics. Perhaps there is not a bacteria causing the problem, but if there is and you do not complete the antibiotics you may be making the the bacteria more resisitant.

Problem with antiobiotics is that they may upset the gut further by killing the "friendly" bacteria. So something to help it to grow back could be of great help (Like Bio, or something of the sort?)
