There are a number of B vits, do you know which one she is lacking?

B12 deficieny is quite common I think and can usually be supplememted by tablets. There can be other causes, such as it not being absorbed by the stomach (pernicious anemia) - in which case supplements can be given by 3 monthly injection.

thankyou.now youve said that i remember her mentioning that she'd been told she wasnt absorbing something properly.and she said she had injection that made her feel,in her words'like a dead duck'!shes not really same since stroke and doesnt have same understanding she had so doctors tell her things but she doesnt always understand.thanks again!

My mum was diagnosed with this. She had monthly injections for 3 months to get her 'straight'. Then went to 3 monthly after that. There is a bit of info \liunk{http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/prnanmia/prnanmia_what.html\here} - but I am sure you can find more by googling. Giving her supplements should sort her out.

As it happens she was mis-diagnosed - her problem was related to a different stomach problem which meant she wasn't absorbing anything - once they solved that the problem was sorted.

I assume it was B12 then? As far as I can remember my mums injections were bright red if that helps (although that my be a brand/formulation thing of course)

not sure as only just found out she went.she doesnt like to ask for help,as after stroke she needed 24 hour care for a while.sounds like you were right!will look at link tomorrow when more awake!

They are bright red and really sting.
I've been having vitmain b12 jabs(every 3 months) for about the last 7 years and now know lots of people who also have them.

My grandad had a stoke nearly 11 years ago,he has to have a b12 injection every 3 month.

It's to do with the various pills he has to take the injections are to counteract the effects of them.

thankyou both of you.
