I remember you from earlier posts - hope the surgery has helped. My scar was tender and sensitive but not raised and I don't recall discomfort/pain at the levels you describe. Did you have any physio exercises to do? Some of mine were very uncomfortable to begin with - I pushed through with them but I remember it being hard to straighten my wrist or place the heel of the hand flat down for quite a while - 2-3 months at least.

Can you go back to your consultant and ask their advice?

Hi didn't have physio just a sheet of excersises from surgeon make fist touch all fingers with thumb that sort of thing can use hand fine but is very painful been back at work this week on reduced hours as the practice nurse at my gps thought I should go back been doing ok although it is very painful and takes me longer to do things (I fill shelves so lots of useing hands) my thumb is also numb and I'm always nerves of catching my scar as it is raised sorry bit of a moan as it's really getting me down as last week it felt so much better but ow it is so painful

Yes, I had similar sheet - placing hands flat on table, sliding them down a wall etc? I guess it's possible that it's nerves etc growing back - I had some shocking and weird pains, but that was in first couple of weeks; I would perhaps go back if I were you if it feels worse, if only for peace of mind. Did you have ulnar nerve issues or am I confusing you with someone else? That might complicate things I guess.
Sorry I can't help more - I know it sucks when recovery seems to go off the rails or take longer than it should. Recent experience has shown me that it's rarely linear or straightforward to get over surgery and often takes longer than you'd think, two steps forward one back, etc - hopefully things will improve soon.

Mine was last October and my scar still hurts at times! I think I had a final appointment with the surgeon 2 months after he removed the stitches, have you got one? My surgeon was unhelpful but yours is hopefully better!

LivingInMidnight · 13/09/2017 19:21

Oh but he wasn't concerned about numbness. I still have some numbness though so debating asking my GP about it.

Hi tinytumble Thankyou very much for your advice not sure if I do have ulner nerve issues as nerve conduction test from April showed it was fine however symtons didn't show up until few weeks before surgery tingling and soreness down little finger side of hand I spoke to the surgeon about. It on the day of the surgery and he said he could not do anything as nerve conduction test said ulner nerve was fine he suggested going a head with the carpol tunnel and getting the other nerve tested later, have mentioned it twice when I've been to gp but they just say I have to let the carpol tunnel settle first I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall with them some times.

Livinginmidnight I have no follow up appointments with surgeon just had the surgery and told to contact gp if I need anything just feel so lost as when ever I go it's always someone different I see and they always give conflicting advice the last time I went was last fri and I was told by practice nurse to stop babying my hand (I haven't been )and go back to work.

Thanks for listening I think will see how I go and try gp again next week if no better

Purple - that's rotten in terms of after-care and not at all supportive of the practice nurse. I would definitely consider another visit to the GP and if they're not helpful requesting a referral back to the original orthopaedic specialist. Perhaps continue the massage in the meantime, it can't hurt. I really hope it improves soon, either with further help or of its own accord.
