Off to the shops this afternoon to get something for ds.

He's still got blisters bar one whic he scratched and is now really irritating him.

Is eurax better than calamine or just the same?

Great to hear those with affected dc's are through the worst. I think tomorrow will be our bad day. Some have started to pop now thankfully, but I can still still loads coming through. We've been using the calamine/glycerin cream and it seems to have helped. Will try Eurax if things get bad. Talk again tomorrow.

Hope the birthday went ok, Zephyr

I put a few drops of tea tree oil (natural antiseptic) in my dds bath when she had chicken pox at 18 months. Also used bicarb as talcum powder after the bath. It certainly worked for her as she was covered from head to toe and suffered. Will definitely try this again when DS catches it

DS has had a rough day today.

Have added two tsp bicarb to his bath, should I put in more? This was along with a cup full of oats in a muslin.

He's letting me dab/smother him in the calamine lotion after the bath but it doesn't seem to keep the itching at bay for long.

Highonlife, did you just apply the bicarb directly onto the spots? Did it keep the scatching away? I also have some Nelson's teatree cream, I wonder if that would help? I have not used it so far as I didn't think it would relieve the itching like the calamine/glycerin cream is.

Sorry if too late 99, but.... I found tea tree more effective than calamine, and I used to 'dust' the bicarb all over the affected areas, as dd thought this was fun! Hope ds is soon better, seems to go on forever at the time, but at least they only get it once.

Hi my 2yr old is feeling rough with chicken pox, the first spot that appeared a few days ago behind her ear is large sore and very weepy can anyone suggest anything? Also she has pea size lumps on her neck any ideas?

paulaplumpbottom · 08/04/2007 13:33

we used Savlon, which worked great. I also gave her oatmeal baths

Hulababy · 08/04/2007 13:35

Another recommendation for piriton - both for the itching and for helping them sleep.

boysontoast · 08/04/2007 13:38

dose him with piriton. bloody miracle stuff. if youre not sure its doing anything, just let the last dose wear off and watch the results... i kept mine dosed (every 4 hours or whatever it is) the whole time.

poor ds

oh, meant to say; i bought all the other stuff, but never needed it b/c the piriton worked so well. hth.

zachalexruby · 08/04/2007 13:58

Ok just off to the chemist for some Piriton thanks

Have just spotted (lol!!) some spots on dd (3.5years) and think they might be chicken pox as well. She doesnt seem to be itching yet but has been a bit more grumpy and clingy than usual.

What are the chances of my ds (6 months) getting it too and does it mean I am stuck in with them for the next week or so?

Mimie2403 · 08/04/2007 21:35

If your dd does have chickenpox it is very very likely that your ds gets it as well, can still be 3 weeks away though before he shows any signs. CP in general takes around 10 days before all spots are crusted over, sometimes up to 14 days. Good Luck! Thankfully my DD is nearing the end of it

zephyrcat · 09/04/2007 13:18

How are things 99? DS ended up in hospital on Friday and we've only just got home He's still absolutely covered in spots, although most of them have scabbed now there are still new ones appearing He doesn't seem to be itching too much until bedtime but the hospital also recommended piriton so that seems to be the way to go!

DS is absolutely covered in spots now. Started with 1 on Thurdsday. Still coming up now, including on his eyelash line, in ears, on willy. Everywhere. Poor sausage. he seems to have got it much worse than dd (he's 18m, she's nearly 4), including higher temp and for longer. Am watching this thread with interest. Will def. try the oats and bicarb bath tonight!

pooka · 09/04/2007 13:36

Golly ZC, I do hope your ds is better. What a terrible weekend for you. Ws it related to the op? Poor soul.

Nightynight · 09/04/2007 14:06

Eosine is pretty good, red stuff that dries and disinfects, you can get it in France.

99redballoons · 09/04/2007 17:26

Hi Zephyrcat, not had a chance to get on the pc till now myself! Hope your ds is feeling much better now, especially now he's home again. Do they think the infected one(s) will scar? Poor love.

We were amazed that ds slept through last night we had minimal itching on Sunday and today he's not had any cream or Piriton (day 6). I don't think we kept him dosed up enough as he felt the itches lots and would point madly at a particular area, me armed with the calamine/glycerin cream. We found the oatmeal/sodium bicarb baths worked the best for him. He would play in them for about 10mins or longer. We filled them really full so when he lied back he was covered up to his neck! He wouldn't scratch for a few hours after one of them (gave them 3 times a day). Thankfully it's been quite easy doting on him with dh being at home this weekend too. I'm dreading it when dd gets it in a few wks.

He's just picked the scab off the biggest one on his face and I'm think it will scar. Have started another thread for that one!

Sorry to hear about the new ones on the thread. Hope your lo's feel better soon. Will check in later.
