Another thyroid one I'm afraid

So...last year I went to the doctors for extreme tiredness and had the standard blood tests done. The results came back with slightly low tsh and slightly lowT4 (I think). Usefully I didn't keep a copy of my results.

I remember my doctor saying the results were unexpected because my low tsh wouldn't normally correspond with the low t4. He said I might be starting with under active thyroid and to go back in a few months.

Obviously I didn't and a year later I went back with heavy periods and the same symptoms. He said again last time I was borderline under and sent me for more tests.

I've just called for the results and I have a TSH of 0.38 but the receptionist couldn't find any other results. She said it's come back in the normal range.

Again this would seem to indicate an overactive thyroid if anything wouldn't it?

Is it possible to have an under active thyroid with such a low Tsh?

Is there any point pursuing this with the doctors?

"Is it possible to have an under active thyroid with such a low Tsh?"

Yes, it is. Secondary hypothyroidism presents with a low normal TSH, but also low in range FT3 and FT4. It's different from primary hypothyroidism where you will have raised TSH and lowered FT4 and FT3.

If you have classic signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism - there's a tick list on the ThyroidUK website, despite your low TSH, please do some reading up on secondary hypothyroidism and go back to your GP.

I had all the symptoms of under active Thyroid and went back several times for tests and was told every time that the tests showed I was not under active.
I absolutely knew I was, because I'd already been suffering from a over active Thyroid and been prescribed medication for that, I knew that my Thyroid could go the other way anytime and it did..overnight!!
I suffered for a year, my weight ballooned and I was tired and depressed.
I gave up hope of ever stopping it, until I found out via the internet about the 'Iodine Loading Protocol'. I then read the book 'The Iodine Crisis' and followed the the Iodine Loading Protocol that was described in book. Within a few days I felt a lot better and have had no Thyroid problems since and am back to my normal weight again, eat much healthier now too, continue to take 100mg Iodine (Iodoral) daily. Have lots of energy, hair back to normal, dry skin gone etc etc.

I always recommend this treatment to others, but people just look at me like I'm mad! The importance of Iodine is very unknown outside of Japan is seems.

Glad to help!!
The loading can be a strange experience, I went through about a month of my nose streaming clear fluid and rashes on my ankles and inside of my thighs, as harmful elements such as Bromide, Chlorine and Fluoride are pushed out of your body.
Iodine is a 'Halide' on the periodic table of elements, it is the heaviest Halide, heavier than Bromide, Chlorine & Fluoride, so if taken in large enough amounts will force the others out of your body..which is good because the others are bad for you and can be sitting in tissues, including the Thyroid. So you get detox effect for a month or so...the book tells you how to deal with this, mainly natural salt in water to help your liver flush things out.
The book advises to find an 'Iodine Doctor' to help you through the process, which they have in the USA, but not here, so I just did it on my own and was fine. There are quite a few supplements to take alongside the Iodoral, so you can absorb the Iodine okay, the book tells you everything.

Amazing thank you so much I've needed some knowledge like this for a long time !! Thanks again!

GourmetGold · 12/09/2017 10:55

No problem! There are some good talks on Youtube by Dr Brownstein and Dr Flechas...Iodine doctors in the USA.
Apparently your ovaries also produce Thyroid hormones, so the big slow down in the ovaries for women 35+ is thought to be why so many women experience problems about this age+ and of course most people are extremely deficient in Iodine. It used to be added to bread up until about 1945, until big pharma decided it was dangerousHmm

Oh and you cannot get an over active thyroid from taking Iodine, as some think. I used to have an over active thyroid before going under active and have had neither of these occuring since taking the Iodoral.

An ill thyroid is 'unstable' so can go either way, under or over active.. instability is caused by Iodine deficiency.

Also a good idea not to drink tap water or use toothpaste with fluoride. I drink value mineral water, tap water contains fluoride and chlorine which compete with Iodine.
I also no longer swim in chlorinated swimming pools and would not use hot tubs as they also contain Bromide.

Could it be t3 thyrotoxicosis? Symptoms of overwhelming fatigue but also horribly revved up at the same time, and really really hungry?

Wow gourmet this is so interesting so where can I buy what I need to take ? I drink a lot of tap water , I've always been sceptical about people saying we shouldn't drink it !

MotherofA · 13/09/2017 18:16

Hi gourmet I have watched a good few videos of Dr Brownstein. Please can I ask what dosage you take and where you buy your idoral ?

GourmetGold · 15/09/2017 10:08

Hi Mother, sorry I've not been on here for a few days.

I buy Iodoral from Amazon, it is quite pricey! I get the 50mg tablets, bottle of 90, 2 per day.
Definitely a good idea to follow the information in the 'Iodine Crisis' book, because taking the Iodoral alone your body can't absorb it, without the extra supplements. All the supplements and special salt listed in the book, I bought from Amazon too. It's not cheap but if you can afford it, worth it to get your health back!

Yes I was never sure how unhealthy tap water was, but decided not to take chances with it anymore, knowing my Thyroid was very ill and that there is definitely Fluoride & Chlorine in tap water that compete with any Iodine in your body.

Thank you so much ! Unbelievably the supplement I mentioned which I have taken contains all the other supplements I think but I have ordered the book anyway . So so glad I read your post !
