Can't raise my arm above shoulder height without pain, hurts putting my coat on, can't rotate my shoulder without pain, really throbbing all the way down to my hand today. It's been going on for months some days are worse than others. Need to go to the doctor and will do this week. Any ideas please though?

Just had mine diagnosed (and fixed) as frozen shoulder (they originally thought it was a rotator cuff injury) ... apparently shoulder pain can go on for a long time so I am grateful to be done with it after only a few months - good luck! I've had trapped nerves too and this goes down to the hand but the frozen thing has made showering and dressing a struggle so definitely different and more disabling.

Think my DH has frozen shoulder too. Hope you get it sorted asap and if I can glean any advice from him once he's sought help I will. He believes he may be able to have an injection to help with the pain. It'll be interesting to see what others advise on here too....

Heat was helpful for me though depending on what's going on you may find ice better. You can alternate them and see if one is better than the other.
Really I found painkillers very little help at all but heat was great. I also bought myself a sling to help with the throbbing. I didn't use it much but good to have, or if you have help you can bind your arm to your body and see if it helps.
When I began to recover I was able to stretch gently and that helped with range of motion down the road.
I'm not a medical professional, just relating what my own experience is. I think there are different causes so what helped me might not work for others.
Good luck with it all, it is a real pain in the arse. Flowers

Hi there, I had the same symptoms and went to the gp who diagnosed shoulder impingement and prescribed ibuprofen gel which did nothing. They then did a steroid injection which didn't help so I was referred to MSK who think It's frozen shoulder and referred for ultrasound, I'm due to get the results on Friday to see where to go from here. Shoulders are complex things and symptoms can mimic each other. You definitely need to see your GP to get it sorted-believe me, I know how painful it is.Good luck Flowers

Oh and pain tends to be worse at night...some kind person on here advised a V shaped pillow which has helped me no end

Which side is the pain? If on your right side, it can be Gall Bladder related

GourmetGold · 12/09/2017 10:45

There is a duct in the Gallbladder that when clogged pinches the 'Phrenic' nerve causing referred head, neck, shoulder, arm pain on your right side. Massaging in the area under the rib cage of the gallbladder can help relieve the pain.

I had this type of pain and lack of movement. Was sent for ultrasound scan and it was Acromiclavicular(AC) Joint Degeneration.

allypally curious to know how your frozen shoulder was fixed?

allypally999 · 15/09/2017 08:51

I had an image guided injection (not too bad) with steriods and air. Apparently the air is the magic part as it reinflates the tight parts .. sometimes it works right away sometimes takes a while - mine took a wee while, around 10 days

Interesting. Glad to hear it helped.
