Is this hives?

On holiday at the mo but the day before we came I started getting them slightly on my legs, I'd feel the itching come late at night an I'd wake up with them on my legs in the morning.

Now on holiday it's got a lot worse, I went to a pharmacy 2 days ago for allergy tablets and they don't seem to be helping.

Any advice? Luckily it's raining today so I can put trousers on but it looks awful 😩

Is this hives?

It could be hives or it looks a bit like urticaria. My urticaria started after a holiday in Greece. No idea what triggered it but I think it was related to stress. Drive me nuts! Is it really itchy?

Urticaria is just the medical term for hives. Which allergy tablets did the pharmacy give you? If the rash doesn't lessen in the next day or so or if you have any other unusual symptoms then I would see a doctor where you are.

Yes I've been scratching at it all night 😩. What could it be from? It seems to be getting worse. It normally went by mid day but now it's lasting almost all day!

Alercina it's called, 10mg one a day. Doesn't seem to be helping. If it's worse tomorrow I'll see a doctor.

Urticaria is hives.

It looks like it to me. Could be worth trying another antihistamine - not all work with me. However, when I've had the sort of reaction that has meant hives, antihistamines only go so far.

I guess you have no idea what's caused it, else you wouldn't be posting. Are you using different shower gel or laundry detergents or anything? It must be something like that, for it to have started at home and still be an issue.

I do find stress makes my reactions worse, so try not to worry (which is so much easier to say than do.) And try not to scratch it or rub it.

Calamine or some other soothing lotion could help, but it won't make it look better, covered in it!

Alercina is cetirizine hydrochloride - same as Zirtek. It might be worth trying loratidine (Clarityn in UK), or chlorphenamine (Piriton in UK - but can cause drowsiness, but I find it most effective,) or Acrivastine (can't remember the trade name.) No idea what local trade names will be, though.

Sounds like seeing a doctor might be a good idea. For the itching you could go back to the pharmacy and see if they have anything. In the meantime, and it sounds a bit woo, but a mix of water and vinegar can sometimes help. Just mix them together and dab it onto the rash.

Was it prescribed to you, or did you buy it over the counter? Did they know you have epilepsy?
