I'm washing towels after every use. I've had 2 showers and a bath today. I'm not keeping on top of washing as I'm producing so much.

The way you're washing your hands OP it's probably unlikely. They hatch in our bowel, at most they would wriggle around the genitils, they wouldn't decide to go on holiday on their own.

Are you feeling a bit calmer today? You did remind me to worm my kids though so thank you.

Rachyabbadabbadoo · 11/09/2017 13:32

Oh please don't worry about that! You're taking action and doing exactly what you should to stop them spreading to others, so well done x The little buggers will be gone in 3-4 days. I think after the second time I was getting annoyed as they are contagious, and felt the school could do an anonymous letter, as they do with nits.

Incidentally, for those with girls, our 2nd infestation caused my daughter a lot of pain one night as they made their way to her vagina. No wishing to freak anyone out but we involved doctors until they discovered the cause!

@gamerchick I am feeling a little calmer. But I'm considering getting an eye test or going to gp to check my eyes.. They feel gritty. Which could be a totally separate thing, I totally get that. But I can't shake the feeling that it could be the worms. If it's happened to someone else, then it could happen to me?!

@Rachyabbadabbadoo

I'm not sure if where I discovered one was from my vagina. I think that's what got me so shaken 😩

So does anyone know if you should see the dead worms in your stools if they are dead?? I haven't seen anything yet so I'm worried that they aren't dying. Is it possible that I didn't have that many and I just can't see them in my stools? In just looking in toilet bowl not getting up close and personal with gloves or anything. Blush

When we've had them, the first time we did see them in our poo (day 1 they were still alive, day 2/3 less so!). You may not see them though so don't panic (didn't the 2nd time round, main symptom was disturbed sleep and itchy bums!). The medication works by starving them of the sugar they need, hence it's not instant. Don't worry, they will go. Do the medication, wash bedding and towels once, and then as usual. And wash hands and bits well in the morning. Good luck and please don't stress x

Thank you Rachyabbadabbadoo. I'll try not to 😕

I've had worms myself and my children have both had them. I've never seen the dead ones. You will know they are gone from a lack of symptoms.

Rachy, whenever my girls had them, they went to their vaginas. Horrible. I think it's common because young girls have a small space between their anus and vagina. That's why I regularly "de-worm" them now.

Iminhell · 11/09/2017 23:03

@PebblesFlintstone I didn't really have any symptoms except the one time I felt one crawl out of my bum. No itchyness/loss of appetite/weight loss. It's been 4 days since I took the medication.. I keep thinking I can feel them but I'm hyper sensitive at the moment so I think I'm imaging it. How often do you worm the children. So does taking the medication when you don't have worms, protect you from them?

I'm not sure there is any proven science on it, but my anecdotal evidence is that giving Ovex (or Boots own, which is the same but cheaper) every 3 months has kept them at bay in my house!

kittytom · 13/09/2017 11:18

Honestly OP, it is fine. A normal part of childhood. DD had them over the summer too. I saw one crawling out of her bum. Gross, but not a big deal. We all took Ovex two weeks apart, the usual washing everything, wet dusting etc. No sign of them now.

@Baldwin1973 hi if you do this < @ then their user name (no space) they should get a message saying they have been mentioned in a post.

Honestly - don't listen to alarmist crap and take Ovex.
