Grandparents on way home with dd2 12.Apperrently she has fractured her wrist (greenstick ) and its in plaster .Nice of them to ring me when it happened !!!!!!!!!!! Thats another thread i think !
Anyway mum insists plaster is only for about a week as they acted so quickly.C**p i think.dd is due to go on a residential watersports trip in 2 weeks. Will she be able to go ?
Any experiences please as i would really like to know what to expect. Will the plaster irritate her and will she be in much pain.I feel awful because she chopped her finger off a while back and now has a real fear of hospitals which my parents think is all rubbish but they didn`t see what she had to go thro .
many thanks

DS1 had a greenstick fracture to his wrist when he was 3. Had in plaster for 6 weeks and had to keep it dry so don't know about your dd's watersports trip. The biggest problem was that it didn't bother him at all and I had to work at getting him to take things easy. After the first night he had no pain and it healed really well.

crispyduck · 03/04/2007 21:18

put a plastic bag over it or wrap it in cling film..stops the moisture..don't know why he had plaster on for 4 weeks, he jumped off a slide....has adhd and no sense of danger iyswim...

Has she got a full plaster on? When my dd had a greestick, they put a half cast on for a few days so the swelling could go down, then put a full cast on for about 4 weeks.

I believe you can actually buy special covers to go over plasters for going in water. Friend bought one, as she was due to go on holiday the day after her dd did the same thing.

I had greenstick fracture aged 10, didn't hurt when I did it, but my friend heard a crack....eghhh! Anyway didn't know I'd broken it as I could still move my hand up and down.....double eghhhh! I had a plaster for 6 weeks, no pain but lots of itching as I had german measles a couple of weeks later, had to use a knitting needle to itch.....triple eghhhh and pukes.....
Anyway I don't remember any pain at all, loved having the plaster, and no washing up as wasn't allowed to get it wet.
I remember though that in later years some kids had waterproof plasters in various colours....Am I imagining that or can anyone else remember them? Might be worth asking though.....
Hope she gets better double quick x

DD had greenstick fracture 6 months ago. She was fine and made no mention of the plaster irritating her during day or night. She adapted her activities very easily and it did not stop any activities. I even took her to Tumbletots!!! She held her arm up during bath time but I decided not to take her swimming. You can get plastic covers though. Most of the healing apparently takes place during the first week so she may be fine to do watersports after 2 weeks.

dd2 had a greenstick fracture in her leg when she was 2. She had a backslab plaster on for a day, then a proper plaster for 4 weeks.
