Random hot flushes post menopause

I'm 63 and went through the menopause in my late 40's so not had a period for 14 years or do. Menopause was characterised by all the usual symptoms including hot flushes etc and all has been quiet on the hormonal front since then. But recently I've been having hot flushes again at odd times. I'm in great health otherwise: fit, active, on the light side for my height, no other health issues or problems and stil dtd when DH can be bothered Smile. Should I be worried or just accept this as normal.

Oooh - I nearly posted the same question yesterday! I am more than 13 years past an early menopause and still get hot flushes. Not quite as bad maybe but still a couple of times a day at least. I have been losing weight and mine seem to have got worse with the weight loss.

I googled and found an article (in Daily Mail!) that a significant percentage of women still had hot flushes 15 years post meno. I think I would perhaps be more concerned as yours went away and have come back. Mine have never totally gone away but seem worse at the moment.

It always amuses me when I go to the GP and they ask in a consultation, any other symptoms, temperature, night sweats etc? Once this was with a rash and twice when they were concerned that I could be developing pancreatitis - and I have to point out that being in menopause means that I would never be able to tell if I was having night sweats due to some other illness!

If I were you I would make a non urgent trip to the GP.

Menopause is for life. It's a big misunderstanding that flushes and all the side effects go in 2 years. Many women have them for years or never ever get rid of them, so my consultant gynae says. My mum had flushes into her 80s.

There is absolutely no need to see the GP.

suffering depending on how young you were (early menopause) were you offered HRT? You should have been, to protect your bones and heart. Women whose periods stop before 45 are encouraged to use HRT up to age 52 at least and longer if they want to.

There are other causes for hot flushes; TB, hyperthyroidism (which you also get weight loss) and heart problems.

As the PPP noted, you need a trip to the GP to rule out the unexplained.
