What blood tests (precautionary) would you ask for?

Am very active, but have bursts of the rage really badly and it affects all around me. Then feel so tired and listless for days, and so on. Not menopausal or peri. That is long gone now, just so you know I am of a certain age!

I don't think I am depressed, but who knows. I don't feel like I am anyway. Love life, but don't like me anymore if you understand me.

I have no other health concerns thankfully, but something is just not right, and I know it, I just don't know how to approach it with GP without sounding nuts!

What would you say I should ask GP about now. Thank you so much.

Is your memory working well still? I'm just wondering about dementia I'm sorry to say. Really hope I'm very wide of the mark.

Tiredness is our nemesis - could be caused by almost anything! As standard blood tests, your GP will ask for a FBC, U&Es, TFTs, fasting glucose, HbA1C, fasting lipids and LFTs. This will highlight or rule out anything serious - but not depression, which can manifest in strange ways, including anger.

In the interim, keep a diary. Note your angry spells and anything that occurs beforehand (emotions, situations, food, etc). Make sure you get some exercise, and use mindfulness techniques to manage your moods.

I wish you well, let us know how you get on?

No memory worries yet....

Full blood count on the cards so..... No harm to do it anyway I suppose.

Possibly afraid of what that might find, ignorance is bliss, but I did ask!

Thanks all.

Someone has mentioned dementia - how is your sense of smell? It is one of the first things to be affected.

Amber0685 · 08/09/2017 21:05

Blood sugar levels?

Doramaybe · 08/09/2017 21:42

Sense of smell is fine, thanks @Stepping. and I know you mean well thank you.

I just know something is not right.

But I don't know what to ask GP/Practice nurse to check for now.

FBC is the way to go now. But they don't do that on a whim due to a patient worry either do they.
