Anyone had an mri for tinnitus?

I'm having one on Sunday. I suffer from anxiety and claustrophobia and am really worried about it. The ENT consultant said I'd need a scan, never mentioned it would be a mri, I stupidly assumed it was going to be an ultrasound one!
Does anyone have any experience of this?

That was not pleasant (like laying in a very noisy/vibrating coffin!!) but I got through it, felt very panicky but told myself if I whimpered out I'd only have to have it done again so I just kept repeating the alphabet to myself until it was over! The radiographer kept telling me how much longer was to go and it really was over quite quickly.

Well done. I hope you don't have to wait too long for the results, and that they are clear.

Me too - I have tinnitus and damaged hearing and they were checking for acoustic neuroma.

Daft thing is they were playing music which I couldn't really hear as I have erm, damaged hearing. D'oh.

My husband had one years ago for unilateral tinnitus. They were looking for an acoustic neuroma but didn't find one. Hope you find some answers as I know how debilitating it can be.

Have you been offered any tinnitus management counselling Op? I've had some this week and it was really helpful.

Twoweekcruise · 14/09/2017 11:45

Yes, I had an appointment with the tinnitus nurse yesterday. As I already cope well she couldn't really tell me anything I didn't already know but wants to see me again after the MRI results which, she says, can take around 2 months to comes back??!

Mine took about 5/6 weeks but that was because nothing was wrong. I'm fairly certain that you would know much, much earlier if anything has been flagged up.

How did things go for your OP?

Twoweekcruise · 15/09/2017 17:45

Well thanks, I'm starting to practise mindfulness to distract from the ringing.
