CONSTANT mild cramp in calf is driving me INSANE

My use of caps as emphasis is down to my irritation, apologies.

Since Sunday last week my right calf muscle has felt like it's about to go into a full on cramp. Niggly, irritating, mildly painful and all the bloody time. I've tried stretching it out but it's not helping.

Anyone have any idea what's going on with my leg? I've not had any injuries or overtaxed myself in any way.

Please get it checked by a qualified physio, doctor or nurse - I don't want to scare you but ...
A friend had constantly cramping calf, went for a "sports massage" and collapsed next day with Pulmonary Embolism- it was a DVT in calf & sports massage had allowed it to move! She was ok but very scary!

If you haven't injured the calf recently (strenuous walking, climbing, sports, etc) then this needs to be seen by someone - ideally today. It probably won't be a DVT but could be. Give 111 a call if you need help deciding where to go.

I've had a cramp in my calf since 2013. I get it released by physio but it comes back within weeks. I limp. I rage.

Shin splints maybe?

Get it checked out asap. I've been to the GP today for the exact same thing, except I waited a month, and he was decidedly unimpressed with me (I know him well on a non-professional basis too.) Apparently my "It's been a month and I'm not dead yet, so it can't be serious" logic isn't correct. Who knew? Grin

He's pretty confident that it's not a dvt but only way to rule it out entirely is with a doppler test/scan or something...? But because mine's just a niggling dull ache, no swelling, no risk factors, etc., he's done some sort of blood test first, which they process on site, and if that's negative I should be in the clear, but if it's positive - even though false positives are apparently very common - they will send me for further investigation (the hospital is 3hrs drive away.)

Mine's neurological in origin. Frustrating as hell!

AuroraFloyd · 09/09/2017 11:51

Oh dear, thanks everyone. I'll get it looked at asap then. Thanks again.

Definitely see a GP to get it checked out. If they say it's nothing serious, you could try a magnesium spray (have a look on Amazon). I use one for my restless cramps legs and it really helps.
