Does anyone have a well managed under active thyroid?

I'm struggling with my dose. I was moved up from 175mcg per day to 175 four days a week and 200 three days a week. That was a month ago and about two weeks ago I began to feel quite unwell.

I've been hot, anxious, had headaches and dizziness, been exhausted and worst of all have been feeling crazy!! Like really mentally weird

I asked for a blood test and today have been down to 200 just twice a week.

Is moving me down just 25mcg a week really going to make much of a difference? I've been feeling so awful I'm anxious it won't

I see an excellent team at hospital fairly regularly so trust them but interested in others experience! Thanks

It took me two years to get my dosage right and I was beginning to despair. I had an episode like yours when I was on 125/150 alternate days and I was clearly overmedicated- had never felt so weird. Going back to 125 a day fixed it - I was suddenly stable even though when I'd been on 125 a day previously I hadn't been quite right. I always found 2 weeks was enough time to see if a change was working or not.

I do. But i need a combination of t3 and t4 medication. I also needed to raise my iron, vit d and b12 levels first.

That's where I got some good advice when I was struggling while taking just levothroxine!

Moving from 175 a day to 200 was enough to make me tearful, anxious and generally unhappy. Dropping from 175 to 150 gave me horrendously heavy irregular periods and an absolute black pit of depression as PMT.

25mcg can make a big difference, at least it does for me. GP says I am particularly sensitive to changes in dose. I've been happy on 175mcg for the last 16 years, so hopefully after this years shenanigans they'll just leave me alone on it!

Thanks all.

I understand 25mcg can make a big difference on daily doses but it remains to be seen whether it makes a difference stretched over a week!

Remember that if you have Hashis and you still have some thyroid function left, it will, from time to time, flood your system with extra hormone and throw everything off balance. Be aware also that the symptoms of being over-medicated and under-medicated can be surprisingly similar.

Mine is now well managed (on 125 a day) but it did take some time. 100 wasn't enough - 150 was too much and I was v on edge/ unable to sleep. I really hope you get the right dose sorted and feel better soon.

Mine is well managed, but yes, 25mcg can make all the difference. I was on 150 and got hyper as well - test were not that bad, but I felt like I was going to die. Am just fine on 125. I felt that if I was hypo, change in dose made a difference in the matter of days - but took several weeks to feel normal again after the hyper episode.

I've got a badly managed one if that's any help ! Grin

but seriously - when it isn;t managedproperly it sometimes feel like constant adjustments are being made and it goes too far one way or the other all the time. Do you get tested through your GP? I was signed of from the endocrinologist, and my GP had been fiddling about with it for about five years I've just moved to a new area, seen a hsopital specialist (for a side effect of thyroid trouble) and she has put me straight back to regular appointments with the endo because she said 'this just isn't being managed well enough.'

In answer to your question though - yes I; have found in the past that 25mcg can make a difference, but for me they are only temporary and then it goes haywire again (I have Graves, had RI treatment so now have underactive). I'd ask about referral back to endo if you are struggling.

Katheraina - did you drop 25 per day or just one dose per week?
