SPD after pregnancy?

BelindaBlinked · 05/09/2017 12:14

Has anyone had this?
My DR said there is a gap between my symphysis pubis and is referring me on to the skeleton clinic.
Basic googling tells me it's SPD - except I haven't been pregnant for over 3 years now.

Has anyone else had this? How did you treat it?

Yes I still have it OP. 19 months since last had a baby. Don't have time for proper response but will do later!

I would be interested in hearing your experience when you get chance mumoftwo

Ok, so I had SPD during pregnancy which manifested as a lot of pain in the front joint. I had acupuncture during my second pregnancy which helped a lot.

Since giving birth, the pain has disappeared except for when I start my period and the first couple of days causes me problems again. Otherwise I don't notice it unless I have walked a considerable distance for example.

I do have other problems linked to hormones and periods, so have just had the coil fitted which may help.

Do you experience pain? Is it consistent?

BelindaBlinked · 05/09/2017 16:58

That's funny that your period triggers it isn't it. Well not funny haha obviously. I can't say I've noticed that with mine.

I hadn't thought of acupuncture, I may give that a try.
I have a consistent ache in my groin area, clicky hips and back ache. I'd gone years thinking it was normal but a recent X-ray has shown I have a gap of a couple of centimetres in my symphysis pubis.

I'm being referred on but was wondering what to expect for the future. The Dr wasn't clear in whether I would always have it.

I had SPD with my third child. It took about 3/4 months to completely go away after birth and strangely enough comes back when I'm on my period but mostly down the front of my thighs.
It's a horrible pain for you to still be experiencing especially when most folk cling on to the thought it will go away after the baby is born.

BelindaBlinked · 05/09/2017 17:05

It's so weird isn't it, I had no idea you could have it for so long.

I mean it's definitely less painful than when I was pregnant thankfully. Not having a huge baby weighing down on me definitely helps!

I had severe spd with second pregnancy and I had a mixture of acupuncture and hydrotherapy sessions to relieve the pain. 4 months since having baby and the pain has only just subsided.

Bunnyfuller · 05/09/2017 21:36

I still have occasional bouts of it, randomly, and mine are 11 and 12!

grasspigeons · 05/09/2017 21:56

I have it
I had physio on the NHS and paid for a chiropractor and swedish massage to get through the worst
I also got insoles from a podiatrist (nhs)

Ultimately time is a great healer - I still have it, but it doesn't run my life now.

I did see a consultant to look at surgery but I decided the risks weren't worth it, especially when he talked about it often helped with stability but not necessarily the pain.

I still get twinges and my youngest is 12. I go to the osteopath regularly, don't play football...

ThomasinaCoverly · 05/09/2017 22:04

I have it still, and DD is 7 now. Had it very badly during pregnancy, and I still have pain when I walk a long way or stand for long - if I've been cooking for a long time, for instance, I really notice it. It's not bad enough for me to go to the doctor, but I think it'll always be there. I find it's better if I do yoga and Pilates, but the problem is always time...

I still have it. My youngest is almost 21.

I've had many major surgeries on my pelvis. I still need to use crutches all the time. My car has hand controls because I can't drive using my legs. I haven't been able to work for about 11 years.

I'm in pain all the time, but it's worse just before my period.
