Has anyone tried treating hyperthyroidism naturally?

i have an overactive thyroid and was prescribed a low dose of Carbimazole, 10mg a day. 6 weeks of taking it has resulted in an 8lb weight gain, massive mood swings and break outs. The main symptoms I had before were a high pulse rate and insomnia so the treatment was far worse!
I am now trying to find a more natural approach and wondered if anyone has experience...?

Following this as I'm having the same issue! Weirdly the exact same timeline and dosage as well Confused

I said to my doctor that if it wasn't for shakes and palps I actually felt pretty great with the hyperthyroid. He said that people abuse thyroid meds for that reason.

I have bought Bugleweed, Lemon Balm and Mother Wort tablets. Seems to have positive feedback and, if not, its £30 wasted rather than a fortune.

So, what happened with you and Carbimazole?

Please be careful. You run the risk of a stroke/ heart problems and as happened to me Graves eye disease if you don't slow your thyroid down. I don't think it's something you can treat effectively without prescribed medication. I had to go on carbimazole in the end and it did work so gradually came off it. Sadly I relapsed after about 18 months and ended up having the radio iodine therapy. Weight gain is a horrible side affect but overall better than the risk to health.

Argh no. Don't. The complications are horrific and can even be fatal, I also struggle to keep taking carbimazole (dose has ranged from 60 down to 5mg at which point I stop taking it then it all kicks off again) even though my mum also had Graves which went undetected for a long time >>> atrial fibrillation >>> emboli >>> stroke.

It's horribly destructive, it trashes everything over time and there's no way of telling if you are one of the people who will naturally just go into remission for decades.

"He said that people abuse thyroid meds for that reason."

He's bonkers. Remarks like that are responsible for thousands of hypothyroid patients being under-medicated and kept ill.

Be patient with the carb and no, you can''t fix hyper/Graves without the medication. if it really doesn't suit you, ask for PTU instead.

People do 'abuse' (or use) thyroxine and triiodothyronine (? T3) for performance and fat loss and so on, he's not bonkers, it's widespread, especially body builders.
