Toddler with overlapping toes - anyone else come across this?

Ds1 (2.5) has overlapping toes. His second toe on each foot overlaps his big toe. He's always properly measured for shoes and when we're at home he's usually running around bare foot. His walking and running are fine and it doesn't really bother me but I wondered whether it's something that I should be concerned about.

Thanks

Can't help piglit but I have noticed this happening with my DS's 1st and 2nd fingers, so would be interested to hear from anyone about it...

My brother (now 30) has a couple of overlapping toes and it's never caused him any trouble at all.

Ds1 is just 6 and he has one toe that overlaps the other and it doesn't seem to bother him either. His friend, the same age, has exactly the same thing and he too has no issues with it.

I'm not doing anything about it based on the above!

Thank you laydeez. I'll carry on doing as I'm doing (ignoring it!) I just had a horrible thought that one day a doctor would say to me "My God Mrs Piglit - your son has X syndrome and we could have fixed it so easily all those years ago if you hadn't been so busy mucking around on Mumsnet."

Hiya Piglit,
I have toes that cross. I had an op on my right foot to place the toe back in its right place, but even now it\s not 100%.

However, at an early age I used micropore on my toes, which actually helped my left foot.

BTW, i had the operation as it was getting difficult to have shoes that fitted correctly, but it didn't actually hurt me.

Thanks jofeb04. I'll keep an eye on ds1. It does seem to be getting worse as he gets older so perhaps a trip to the doctor is called for.

Piglit,
If it is what I had, I was giving micropore (or more, my parents were) to place on the toe.
It went over the toe that was effected, and under the toes next to it (ifswim). I was like this for years before I had the operation, and the doctors didn't really want to operate but due to difficulty in getting shoes (the flat type needed for school) the op was allowed.

I had the operation at about 8 or 9 years old.

Thanks. It's so hard to know when to worry about something and when not to bother!

MY DD 9 months has crossed toes. I asked the Dr is this would cause probs walking later on. I was told that as long as the big toe is working fine and is not disformed there will absolutely no prob with walking. She said that the only toe we actually need is the big toe and she does not see the point in the other ones anyway as they often end up getting broken!!

It turns out that she inherited thes toes from my BIL, I noticed his crossed tows when he cam to visit from USA. He walks fine too.

(and many explorers lose toes due to frost bite and walk perfectly fine!!)
