Heavy bleeding from below 5 years after giving birth....

Hi, wonder if anybody can help me....

My sister in law gave birth 5 years ago and this week was rushed into hospital with severe bleeding (loss of 6 pints) and had to have an emergency transfusion and then an operation??

My mil is not convinced by sil's story of it being an 'afterbirth trauma' and I'm not so sure as never heard of this? Has anybody ever experienced this or heard of what this actually means? Have tried googling but doesnt seem to tell me much?

TIA

Sounds like she may have suffered a miscarriage, more like.

BigHotMama · 02/04/2007 12:23

Well she thought it may have been a MC at first but far too much blood and the doctors said it wasn't, and she would have told us as she's had one before? Seems odd all the bleeding? Oh forgot to add she had just had sex with her dp too so could he have damaged something inside?

No, normal sexual intercourse cannot damage a physically healthy woman inside.

The vagina is designed to accommodate a penis.

Did she have a fibroid tumour, perhaps?

Fibroid.. or cervical erosion.. or ruptured fallopian tube.. (or something else pregnancy -related.)

After-birth trauma unlikely.

Neither a birth five years ago, nor sex with her husband, is likely to have caused sufficient damage to cause her to lose six pints of blood.

It is likely that your sister has been told by the hospital what the problem is, and has chosen not to tell anyone else the full story. Maybe an ectopic, maybe fibriods - but if she hasn't told you the full story then she doesn't want you to know.

Mmmm I thought it sounded odd and even her own mum doesnt believe her either? I guess we'll never know as she wants to keep it to herself.
Well thanx for the replies anyway everyone
