Sharp pain in left temple

My OH has been complaining for the last week or so that he will get a random, sharp shooting pain in his left temple that takes his breath away and will physically distract him from whatever he is doing for a minute or so until the pain subsides. It has happened once or twice a day for the last week or so, and at random points of the day when he is doing different things so it's not activity related. Does anyone have any idea what this may be?
We can't get a GP appointment until Saturday morning but I am concious it could be something serious and if so want to get him seen to quicker if so. Thanks in advance!

Could you ring your GP again and ask for an emergency appointment? No idea what it could be but I'd want him seen asap if this were me. Has he had any other symptoms with it?

I would press for an emergency appointment, just to make sure.

But I've had something that sounds similar. Sharp, shooting pain at the temple or just over one eye, tends to come on and then go again. I had them for years. Tended to come on in the mornings, but not always. Coffee made it worse. My GP wasn't troubled by it, as there were no other factors to suggest anything more sinister. She asked a few questions, muttered something about retinal migraines and blood sugar and kicked me out of her office.

Now I eat a proper breakfast - nothing too sugary - in the morning I haven't had one in about 18 months, two years maybe.

But that's my personal experience so I'd reiterate - you'll both feel better if you get that emergency appt I reckon.

How old is he and does it hurt to touch the area? Giant cell arteritis is unusual in men (but certainly can happen) but is said never to occur in the
