Hi,

my dd(9mnths) fell off the bed this morning.
She screamed her heart out for a few seconds and was then fine, back to her normal chirpy self. I checked her all over, made sure her eyes dilated and I cannot find anything wrong.

She also has no bump at all or even a graze anywhere.
Has anyone else experienced this. Should I still go to A& E

She sounds OK...if there's no obvious damage, no bleeding, no loss of consciousness, no drowsiness, no vomiting, no blood from ear/nose, no balance problems then I would say don't go. Keep an eye on her for a few hours.

My dd had a nasty knock at the same age and we ended up in A&E as she had blood coming from her nose and all they do is keep them in for 4 hours under observation (they don't like X-raying unless absolutely necessary - so if there are symptoms of a skull break or brain injury as described above).

Give her a big kiss and a cuddle and keep a close eye on her today and if you are worried at all, go to GP to get her checked out.

oh and another bit of advice the A&E people told us - if they ever bang their heads badly before they go to bed (i.e. less than 4 hours before bedtime), if you are really worried, the best thing to do is wake them up about an hour or so after they have gone to bed to check they haven't lost consciousness (as this must be a key sign of brain/skull injury). Hope that helps!

I wouldn't bother going unless there's any change in her. Just keep a very close eye on her. If you're still worried, why don't you call NHS Direct. I can't remember the number, but it will be on the web. One of the nurses will take you through a list of things to watch out for. At the end, they usually tell you to take them to A&E anyway, just to cover themselves, but you may find the checklist helpful.

My DD had a simliar fall (from a sofa) when she was 6 months, and I took her, but only because when I called my GP, he told me to and I didn't feel I could disobey him. It wasn't necessary though.

thanks guys, I called my hv and she said the same sort of thing just to keep an eye on her. She has gone for a little nap so will wake her in an hour to see how she is.

Its scarey stuff being a parent isn't it!
