Quick question - Which painkiller is stronger?

Hi there. Just a quick question. I have just been prescribed 20/500mg Co-Dydramol as 30/500mg Co-Codamol weren't working and was still in pain. Taking two of each of them, which would be the stronger painkiller? When I looked up the dosage conversion to morohine it looks like the Cocodamol is stronger than this dose of Co-Dydramol unless I'm mistaken. Can anyone help at all? Thank you x

You can't take 2 of each of them
They both contain 500mg paracetamol per tablet - maximum dose is 1000 4 times per day

I meant if I were to take 2 Co-Dydramol on one occasion, and taking 2 cocodamol on another occasion. As in which is stronger 40mg of Dihydrocodeine or 60mg of codeine.

The best course of action is probably to take your new meds and see if they work rather than looking up conversion dosage. Some people simply respond better/worse to some drugs. The co-drydamol might well be the better drug for you if co-codamol isn't working. You won't know until you try it. Nor will your doctor.

Thank you for the reply. I have taken my first two about an hour ago but they don't seem to be helping too much yet. I don't want to be too pessimistic so I'll still give them a good go. X

Hmm it's hard to say which is stronger. Dihydrocodeine ounce for ounce is stronger than codeine, but this does depend on the dosage. As you are on the middle strength of Co-Dydramol, I would say that they either work about the same, or the cocodamol is perhaps a hair stronger. Try them for about a week or so, and if they don't work then I'm sure your doctor will prescribe a higher strength of Co-Dydramol. If that still doesn't work, the next step up is probably Tramadol xx
