I'm 46 and experiencing real issues with my eyesight for the first time. (To be clear, I have owned glasses since 13, but only worn them for specific activities - shooting/ occasionally driving). I am now noticing that I am really struggling with screens and am getting a lot of headaches. My eyesight has been largely irrelevant before now - noticing only less 'starburst' stuff when wearing my glasses to drive in the dark/ rain.
I do have an appointment booked, but from my rudimentary and completely unscientific personal investigations, I have one eye that is long sighted, and one that is shortsighted (both to a very noticeable degree). My right eye has always been v shortsighted - but suddenly my left eye seems to be utterly failing to focus on screen/ page, but is good at long distances.
Given my age, and the fact that I spend vast amounts on time on screen and reading print, how would this be corrected? I tried varifocals last year briefly (my eyes seem to have changed enormously from this prescription) but found the distortion of the screen/ page and the constant head adjustments to be hugely problematic... I'm guessing reading glasses is the sensible step?
Is there any weirdy stuff I need to be thinking about? How weird is it to have such different eyes at this point? (To be fair - my eyes have always been very different and I have always relied on my left eye - so to realise it is bugger all use for close up work is causing me some consternation. i can't cut down screen and book time - I'm writing my thesis...)
