Need a better, more experienced, dentist in London

I have a dead tooth at the front (root canal years ago) that had gone brown so last November I forked out nearly £500 to have a crown put on it to improve its appearance.

For a week or two the crown looked great but it soon started to turn grey, which even the dentist who did the work admits. She is young and despite doing all the implants and crowns at my surgery, says she "doesn't know why" and "it's never happened before".

It does look a bit better than the brown tooth it replaced but given what I paid it is not satisfactory and looks slightly more "stained" than my natural teeth.

The young dentist offered to replace it back then but warned that it may weaken the tooth, so I stuck with it.

Now I need more work done as I need a bridge replaced (also at the front of my mouth) but don't want the same dentist to do it. I don't want to pay at least £1k for a new bridge only for the same to happen again.

So I want to know if any of you can recommend a good, experienced dentist who would do a good job and who would know what's gone wrong with my new crown? I'm in south east London but don't mind travelling within the London area for someone good.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link Squirm - prices seem a bit scary though! I guess that is probably standard for Harley St.

Go to Keith Burns, he's the best dentist I've ever had! I spent years (and a lot of money) searching for a dentist who was good yet reasonably priced. And finally I found Keith. I can't recommend him highly enough. I had a crown on one of my front teeth because it was dead (so same as you OP) and quite a few years later, it still looks great.

His practice is in central London. Nearest station/tube is Blackfriars.

Was it an all ceramic crown eg eMax or zirconia? I'd put money on it having the wrong type or colour of cement underneath leading to the colour change. A colleague of mine did it when a junior nurse picked up the wrong tube once, had to take it all apart & start again.

The other possibility would be that they didn't colour match the original tooth for the technician to know how much discolouration needed blocking out though you'd notice that immediately rather than over time.

Hundredmilesanhour - thanks very much for this recommendation. I will look up the link for your dentist.

Rainbowgrimm - It was a porcelain crown as opposed to a metallic crown - I don't know any more than that I'm afraid as I don't know anything about dentistry.

They did colour match the crown to the teeth at either side and I was happy with the shade they suggested. As I say it looked great at first - for a week or two - but discoloured soon after.

With regard to the cement colour, wouldn't that have shown straight away also?

Thanks for replying everyone.

My dentist is great, and absolutely lovely too. Very experienced in restorative dentistry (I should know, she's done loads for me as I have enamel hypoplasia). She is called Sarah Holmes, and practices at Oasis on Fulham Road and Carnaby Street Dental.

I have a lovely old school dentist who is very gentle and knows his stuff. Philip Norton Dental Practice - between Camberwell and Herne Hill.

Shoving and Nightmanager - thanks very much for these recommendations - I will check them out. Very much appreciated! Flowers Flowers

Dental implants are so common now there are virtually hundreds of dental clinics in north london that specialise in this treatment.

As a regular at the dentists, I strongly recommend checking their Google business reviews and website before deciding who to use for specialist treatments if you don't have a regular local dentist.

I usually end up googling things like 'best dental implant specialist north london' etc and reviewing the results.

E.g. if your in the mill hill east area of north london these guys look decent with excellent recent reviews and a decent site
Portner Pittack www.portnerpittack.co.uk/dental-implants-mill-hill-north-london.html
But please do your own research and hope this helps.
