Why do we get more viruses in winter?

Does the outside air temperature allow the viruses to replicate or something? Do we have less vitamin d so lowered immunity?
Just struck by the difference between children's health in winter and summer and also I've noticed so many colds etc take hold this past few weeks since the temperature has dropped. Why is everything so seasonal?

Mainly because people are inside and gathering in enclosed spaces more often than summertime.

Really?! I can't think mine and my friends lifestyles changes that much from winter to summer - we still stand next to each other to chat, our children touch and play together etc...

There is also a link with immunity which is lower in winter because it's affected by vitamin D levels. And damp inside conditions are good for viruses to reproduce themselves

So is vit d the main difference?

This seems to suggest it's combination of things

Incidentally I'm one week into a horrible cold and have felt rotten. It's been in my head, throat and now my nose, with a really tickly cough. I'm convinced it gets worse with age, too Sad Sure I would have fought this off, a few years ago...

That's really interesting about humidity in that article thanks

Hope you get better soon!
