Ouch! IBS-type symptoms, what works?

I'm getting married later this week.
We're sound but we've had some difficult guests to negotiate and some other bits and pieces.
I've been pulled in a few different directions and I'll be honest, it has been stressful. Happily the end is in sight.

I don't usually have IBS I'm usually headaches and muscle aches.
For the past two weeks I've been feeling sick, had terrible diarrhoea including through the night, I have a bloated tummy, wind and trapped, painful wind.

I'm not eating until I'm ravenous, then I'll eat and be in horrible pain.
I haven't had more than 5 hours sleep a night since this started but I'm as sure as I can be that these are stress/IBS type symptoms.

I've been drinking mint tea, taking gaviscon and painkillers.

What else might work?

When you do eat, try avoiding gluten / wheat. It can help.

Mine hit 'peak gut horror' during DS's A level results last week, and is pretty bad today again. Sympathies.

Best wishes for your wedding btw Flowers

Try Pepto-Bismol instead of Gaviscon, that works for me
Buscopan are good for cramps and loperamide/Imodium for diarrhoea

Try to stop only eating when hungry and eat at planned times too

I do eat gluten-it is the wheat that can affect some people, I do eat gluten free bread as it is something I eat every morning, but do not follow a wheat/gluten free diet to strictly.
Try eating smaller meals, rather than one big meal.
No tablets etc out there really work for me.

I find that Colpermin tablets (know you can get them in Boots) help the best

Thanks everyone.

I thought my OP was long enough already but I'd tried Loperamide but it made things a lot worse, it didn't just slow everything down, it stopped it and the ensuing trapped wind had me rolling around in agony.

Buscopan didn't touch it.

Following your advice I've tried Pepto-Bismol today and it's taken the edge off of the pain and I've been able to keep 2 small meals down. It's not cured but I can function.
So thank you Flowers

If this continues post wedding I'll try cutting out wheat and see my GP.
I'm assuming it's nerves but if I'm still like this in a few weeks time I think it will need further investigation.

I don't think that you should have diaareah through the night .I think you should check with GP if that continues .

Good luck with wedding .Really sorry that this is spoiling it a bit .

sunny I agree with you and it's bad.
I'm pretty sure it's a stress thing but yes, if it goes on I will definitely seek medical advice.

Thank you to everyone who has wished me well for the wedding Flowers
