Stress fracture in my foot- how can I aid recovery?

The X-ray hasn't shown anything but apparently that's to be expected. It takes longer for a stress fracture to show and I can go back for another X-ray in a couple of weeks time if it doesn't get any better. The consultant is confident that it is a stress fracture though based on the swelling, pain etc.
I'm normally a very active sporty person so the idea of resting it is hideous to me. And how can I rest it when I have a dog, two children, a part time job, it's the summer holidays etc etc.

I can lay off running and other stuff but what else can I do I wonder.

Would wearing a borrowed 'Beckham boot' for when I'm walking the dog, wandering round at home etc help?

Any advise very gratefully received.
TIA

The best thing to do is to follow the advise you have been given. If they though you needed a boot they would have given you one. The advise varies depending on how stable a fracture is and what stage ofhealing you are at. In somecases absolute rest and Iimmobilisation are necessary for healing I others slight stress on the fracture site is needed to promote healing. Your consultant will have given the specific advise for you.

Thanks for replying.
If i remember correctly, all he said was "don't go signing up for any half marathons" and I have assumed the bit about resting it.

So do I follow the "if it hurts more, don't do it" rule instead?
