I am lying in bed with a bad back
I can't go to the loo, I just sort of roll off the bed and kneel over ds's potty
I had a telephone consultation with Dr this morning and have been prescribed codine but it hasn't done anything
Should I ring for something stronger?

Go to a&e by ambulance if necessary. Is it a sudden thing or an ongoing condition?

mrsjohnsim · 30/03/2007 15:57

yes, amybe you need some valium, dh has just had some for his bad back- it relaxes the muscle spasm.
Phone NOW- i am sure it will help.

and poor you...I ma in bed with a mega sore throat, temp and head cold.
feeling really poorly most of this week.
there just isn't time to be ill is there?

Berrie · 30/03/2007 15:57

It goes about 3 times a year but this is worse than usual. I don't think it's anything serious!

Ring and ask for something stronger to help you now, and ask for a home visit tomorrow.

mosschops30 · 30/03/2007 15:58

what has happened to your back berrie is it an acute problem.

If you can kneel over a potty then its not a hospital problem so dont waste a&e/ambulance time.

Try some anti-inflammatories like brufen or voltarol if youve got any, try a heat pack and phone a chiropractor or physio for a diagnosis IMHO GP's know jack-shit about back problems

Berrie · 30/03/2007 16:00

Mrsjohn sorry to hear that. It's ok for me really because I feel fine until I move. Could do with a paper, some chocolate and the remote control but DH sounds as if he's enough on his plate from what I can hear!

Osteopath and pilates, long term.

I@ve been like this once and getting to the bathroom left me in so much pain I wanted to throw up. I had painkillers and anti inflammatories and, tbh, I think they only take the edge off the pain.

SoupDreggon · 30/03/2007 16:03

a heat pad felt nice.

Berrie · 30/03/2007 16:03

Can't take ibruprophen cause of asthma. Am lying on a hot water bottle thanks. Bit worried as dh is going abroad for a week next week

mosschops30 · 30/03/2007 16:04

another vote here for pilates, marvellous for strengthening your back and making you look gorgeous in the process

Berrie · 30/03/2007 16:04

Oh I think there is an osteopath in the village...wonder if they practise at weekends or do home visits?

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 30/03/2007 16:05

does brufen affect your asthma or are you just going on advice?

just wondered cos I have asthma but its not affected by NSAIDS

SoupDreggon · 30/03/2007 16:07

An osteopath is the thing that made the most difference to my back. Pilates is then meant to keep it that way.

YOu might find they do weekends if you explain the problem. Maybe not home visits as they might need their "massage" table.

Berrie · 30/03/2007 16:12

Yikes Soupdragon can't get to the bathroom let alone the osteopath!
Mosschops, i took 4 doses of ibuprophen before I spoke to the Dr and I do feel a bit crackly on my chest but that might be because I'm lying down.
I've rung Dr and they're going to get back to me.
Am dreading Poo! it's one thing having DH hovering behind me catching wee!...

Dr says codine will work better the more I have...

OP posts:
SoupDreggon · 30/03/2007 17:26

And once you've got to the bathroom you have to get on and off the toilet...! Luckily I went to stay with my parents whilst I recuperated and as my frail grandmother lived there, the loo had grab rails

Berrie · 31/03/2007 16:15

Well, one day on, the codine and a couple of glasses of wine wiped me out last night for a good 7 hours which was good as I'd been awake every half hour or so the night before. However, though I can crawl to the bathroom now, the potty is still my favourite option! What am I going to do on Monday? As DH has pointed out, it's not very safe if I can't leap up to help lo's if they need me. Still, I may improve yet...

I am glad you had some sleep!Codeine and red wine seems good I have been unwell for ages and doctors can't work out what it is I have been eating healthily blah blah but my oldest friend rang to say she was in Brighton for a few hours and we had lunch and a few glasses of wine and I feel better Maybe we are all a bunch of drunks!

Berrie · 31/03/2007 16:29

Ds (3) likes to play a game, 'Mummy what do you like best, Lazy town or Tweenies?' or 'What do you like best, cheese or apples?' etc. Anyway this morning he ased, What do you like best, 'wine or beer?.' I was mortified!
