Why am I so bloody tired all the time?

I went to the GP to talk about general 'malaise', wondering if I might have thyroid problems etc. Basically any time I'm at home, I want to be in bed. I just want to lie down ALL the time and that doesn't seem normal.

I mean, is it normal? Do all mothers feel this way? I work part time at a desk. I used to get my 10,000 steps in daily and count calories but in the past six months I've felt more and more lethargic so haven't been exercising as I should.

The GP checked my thyroid (no lump or enlargement) and sent me for blood tests. All of them are sickeningly normal - liver, iron, thyroid, etc.

Am I just lazy, perhaps??! Can anyone relate??

I felt like this and a few months later got really ill and was diagnosed with crohns. Keep a diary of any other symptoms and maybe invest in some good quality vitamins.

Vitamin D?

ineedwine99 · 18/08/2017 09:11

Same here OP and all tests normal :-( frustrating

Thank you. Can anyone recommend a vitamin brand or how to tell what's good quality?

this also sounds like me about a couple of years before I was finally diagnosed as a coeliac. initially I just felt wiped out all the time. we also did blood tests etc and found nothing. the serious gastro symptoms only happened much later.

so maybe its digestion? try a probiotic?

Try healthspan for vitamins.
Did they check your vit d or b12?

DubiousCredentials · 18/08/2017 13:21

Over the counter vit d or b12 won't be much use if you are deficient. Were these levels checked when you saw gp? It's def worth asking about it if you're not sure.

HeyMacWey · 18/08/2017 18:07

I bought the super strength vit d from healthspan and at a dosage of 3000iu /day it increased my levels - it was cheaper than a prescription too.

EllenRipley · 18/08/2017 18:33

The tests covered iron but did GP include ferritin levels? Find out - if not ask for it to be done or if so find out the levels. VitD and B12 would also be next on the list, and food allergy/intolerance, just to rule the most obvious things out. Could it be hormonal?

summertimeandtheweatherisfine · 18/08/2017 19:55

I had this/have this and it was my vitamin D - was so low (apparently at near rickets level, 24) and now on a super dose where I take two tablets a week and feeling better. My son was 64 and they said that is still low but can just be treated over the counter.
If you have a GP that will give you a blood test easily ask for it, if not treat and see how you feel in a few weeks. If no better go back.

NerdyBird · 18/08/2017 20:11

I am constantly tired too. My results were 'normal' but when I asked for a copy of the actual figures my b12 and iron were right at the bottom. I take high dose supplements now but haven't been doing it long enough to make a difference yet.
Maybe get your precise figures and see if that sheds any light.

BhajiAllTheWay · 18/08/2017 21:43

Vit D? My level was so low and I picked up every cold going. I was also tired all time. I had a course of cholecalciferol on prescription and have carried on with a vit d supplement. it's helped.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 18/08/2017 21:50

For me it was depression. Exhaustion came from dealing with people mostly. Exercise made me worse, not better. Eventually other symptoms appeared - random sobbing, weight gain etc.

Not saying this is you, but how are you feeling?
