Sorry, I know this is a bit gross but I'm having this procedure done tomorrow and I'm really nervous about it! Has anyone else had it done and was it effective? How painful is it? TMI but it's all quite itchy and sore there atm, will that affect them doing it?

I was referred to have it done but by the time I was offered an appointment they had sorted themselves out! I was a bit apprehensive but then the piles were causing so much discomfort that I thought it would be worth it. Good luck Flowers

Oh I'm sorry, I've done that before at the dentist. Are you going to go back to your GP to talk through your worries? Do you have something to manage the pain/itching for the meantime? Flowers

I feel really bad because my reminder texts beforehand said missing your appointment costs the NHS £160. I think I just had too long to freak myself out because they were running about 40 minutes late by the time I left. I said to the nurse that I hadn't been given much information about the procedure and she kind of laughed and said "you'll find out soon enough." So then I started googling and I just thought I couldn't stand the idea of a doctor sticking something up my bottom and potentially the pain. I have a very very low pain threshold too. They must think I'm so stupid though for just leaving without saying anything SadBlush. I get so anxious though. I wonder if they'd do it under sedation?

Bought preparation H wipes and gel and that'll have to do me!

Do speak again to your GP. At the very least they can give you some stronger prescription-only cream that has local anaesthetic in it, but they should also be able to talk you through options for sedation (if available) or at the very least re-refer you and explain a bit more about the procedure.

I also have a low pain threshold and really can't cope with pain but if your pile pain is as bad as I remember then I'd want it sorting out for good. Imagine the relief you'll get when they're gone.

It is horrible but I also suffer from IBS...which can make me very constipated or swing the other way so that doesn't help. I wonder if it's worth getting them banded anyway if they'll just come back.

Apart from the discomfort I also feel gross and sexually unappealingSad.

What has your GP said about IBS and reoccurrence of piles? I'm not surprised you've been so hesitant when no-one seems to have explained much about it to you.

Don't feel gross - you have a medical condition like any other. Do you have the support of a partner?
