Anyone have lots of breast lumps - do you get them all checked

I'm 47 and it's only 5 months since I was at the breast clinic and I've been 4 times in the last 2 years.
I've now found another lump.
Drs have never made me feel like I'm wasting their time (clear lump there each time which they have been able to feel and my DM had BC in her late 40's) but it seems ridiculous to go so many times.
Anyone else in same position ?

Not me but a friend of mine has repeated cysts in her breasts and gets each and every one checked out. She has to go more than once a year and has never ever said that she's been made to feel like she shouldn't. She is just hugely grateful for the amazing NHS!

I'm 40 and recently found a lump in my left breast. Went to the drs and I apparently have a cluster, but she also found a lump in my right breast. I'm booked in for a mammogram on Wednesday. I too have been wondering about this.

That's interesting Dubious - there must be quite a lot of us I think. Particular those going through perimenopause when I think breasts can get more 'lumpy' anyway.
I really don't want to waste anyone's time but not heave enough to ignore them when they are very definite lumps.

Hope your appointment goes ok Ivy - whenever I have been the staff have been brilliant.

'Brave' enough

Ignoring lumps is not grave - actually it's probably the opposite. Get it checked (I speak as someone who has breast cancer).

ArgyMargy · 14/08/2017 13:24

Brave not grave!!

NotAClooo · 14/08/2017 13:26

I know you are completely right Argy - it's just that thought of wasting people's time.
Hope your treatment is going ok x

Always, always get them checked. You just never know.

whitehandledkitchenknife · 14/08/2017 13:39

Always get them checked out. I had my first lump at 17. I come from a family with lumpy breasts. Never skip a mammogram. Mum died of BC. You're not wasting people's time - we can't tell what's ok and what isn't.

DancingLedge · 14/08/2017 13:45

HCPs checking breast lumps is NEVER a waste of their time.
90% of lumps seen in breast clinic are not cancer. But definitely still needed checking.
Get yourself along there. They'd rather see you 4 times a year, than once with a lump that needed surgery, and could have had a simple op, but was left until it's spread.

NotAClooo · 14/08/2017 13:53

Thank you everyone for the push I needed. I think it all stems from growing up in a family where you only went to the doctor if you were seconds from death (and even then it was frowned upon Grin.)
As another poster said - thank goodness we have an NHS system where the breast clinic system is available.

Thanks notaclooo Smile

Grin Understood Notacloo. Have finally got around to making an appointment to have my bunged up ears sorted out. Now that I really, really can't hear a thing.
ivyjames · 16/08/2017 16:16

Been for my appointment today. I had a very large cyst which the lovely Dr drained.

He said that I would probably get more cysts over the next five years or so, but to make sure that I went to the dr every time I found a lump. He couldn't stress this enough, so hopefully this answers your question!

NotAClooo · 16/08/2017 19:27

Glad it was a cyst Ivy and that they were able to drain it there and then.

I have seen GP and they have referred me so will have an appointment with clinic within two weeks. Really useful to know what they said to you today.
