IBS and pregnancy

3am and I've leapt out of bed and ran for the loo, where I've sat, for half an hour, having what can only be described as crippling contractions and diarrhoea. Hot flushes make me feel like I need to throw up or faint at the same time. Thankfully, I've just made it back in to bed. This is the third time this week.

I'm so, so, so fed up of this now. I've had stomach problems since birth (according to my mum. I remember as early as about 9) Doctors say "IBS, nothing we can do - off you go".

Since being pregnant it's gotten worse. I feel like I can't eat out, as just the very act of eating can have me running for the loo before the bill has even arrived. Seriously. Sometimes I don't even finish my dinner before the cramping starts. I've given up being embarrassed by the amount of time I spend in restaurant toilets or the possibility of other women hearing me.

Please someone tell me it will get better after the baby has been born. Or tell me some secret tip that's dead easy and will fix everything, because I am seriously f'ing fed up right now. I'm also worried because how can I be in this much pain and it not affect the baby?!

I'm managing to control some of my IBS symptoms fairly well through diet so I'm getting less bloating and cramping but I'm still dealing with "urgency" issues immediately after (or sometimes while) eating. Like you sometimes I'm having to run to the bathroom mid meal. It's embarrassing in social situations if you're out for a meal with other people and I have huge anxiety about public bathrooms! I'm trying to time my eating out and meals when I now I can get home soon after but it's not ideal. I have found taking a couple of Loperamide before eating can hold things up things for a few hours but I don't want to become too reliant on them in case they start to cause the opposite issue!

I've had mebreverine but I'm not sure I can take anti spasmodic meds whilst pregnant
