Is NIght Nurse any good to help me sleep on a 13 hour flight?

Flying abroad on Tuesday, it's a 13 hour flight with no stops- I'm not great at sleeping on planes, will Night Nurse do the job?

Be careful - Night Nurse gives me terrible restless legs. It is a known side effect. In fact, all sleeping tablets do. I took a sleeping tablet for a long night flight once, and spent the whole flight fidgeting or walking around to try and stop the restless legs. Nightmare flight!

Nytol are good for sleeping in planes.

loveka · 13/08/2017 20:43

Nytol is wonderful for this sort of thing.

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 13/08/2017 20:45

You need the over the counter version of Nytol, not the herbal one you can pick up off the shelf (or Boots' own brand Sleepeze which are cheaper). Two of those should knock you out for a good 8 hours.

Have you tried NN before? If so how did you get in with it?

When I have a bad cold the biggest consolation is taking NN, I bloody love it Grin as I get a solid, deep sleep.

Musicaltheatremum · 13/08/2017 20:55

Wine is brilliant. Not too much but just enough to relax me.

Zohz123 · 13/08/2017 21:00

I've never had NN before- ever! So reading reviews and things, I'm confused. Either I have it and have the best sleep ever, or I end up overtired and drowsy or with other scary symptoms. So I'm just weighing up my options. It's a night flight so I might see how I go- if I'm looking to be alive and bright eyed after the first hour, I might take it if it looks like I won't fall asleep. Just the idea of 13 hours awake on a plane feels like my worst nightmare!!

Boots night cough relief medicine (same shelf behind counter as NN etc - dark blue label on bottle does the trick for me. Took it first time for the actual purpose, then have used it on a few occasions since purely to get a decent night's sleep. No grog in the morning. Takes about 30 minutes to affect me, and this is from someone who was prescribed Zopiclone and it had zero effect on me.

FoofFighter · 13/08/2017 21:03

Maybe a trial run first?

welshweasel · 13/08/2017 21:06

A couple of piriton, a couple of cocodamol and a couple of large glasses of wine. That was my go to sleep inducing cocktail when I used to work nights.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 13/08/2017 21:08

Actually I know a few air crew and they swear by antihistamines for guaranteed sleep. Can't remember which one though.

welshweasel · 13/08/2017 21:09

Over the counter sleeping pills are all antihistamines as far as I know, they just package them differently and charge way more!

SomeOtherFuckers · 13/08/2017 21:10

Take a half dose of NN and an eye mask ... if you don't sleep take another half dose. It always gives me the best sleep ... but sometimes a full dose or slightly over estimated dose means I'm knackered when I wake up and have once slept for 16 hours straight!

lazymum99 · 14/08/2017 14:59

Phenergan. (antihistamine) there is a dosage in the instructions which is for insomnia.
