Myself and baby have been dealing with thrush for 4 to 5 weeks qnd its not budging. Son has had 3 courases of daktarin 2% and 1% gel his has gone and come back but has not spread only on his tounge. Mine has not gone and gone from nipple to deep breast/ductal thrush. Ive had the cream and that just did not work one bit. Now ive turned to using grapefruit seed extract 15 drops in diatilled water on my nipples alternating with apple cidre vinegar after every feed then applying coconut oil and have been swabbing babys mouth with higher nature grapefruit seed extract and also giving him klaire labs probiotic daily mixing 1/4 spoon with 28ml of milk and giving with sringe as i exclusivly breastfeed. I also take a probiotic tablet and 3 grapefruit seed extract tablets a day. Ive been doing this for 4 days. Nothing is happening. I think his would clear if i didnt have it but mine is just getting worse. Whats the best meds i can use to get rid of this ? Ive also tried to cut out sugar foods and eat very healthy and eating a ton of yeo valley yogurt and drink 4 table spoons of apple cidre vinegar every day. Im so fed up of it. I also avoid using a bra and wash everythig me and baby wear once we both change tops twice a day i also iron everything and try my very best to steralise dummy after every feed and put a little gse on it. Please someone suggest something that has worked for you because ive spent almost £100 trying to get rid of this. I wish they would have told me in hosp that the antibiotics might cause thrush so i could have tried to prevent it. Will it just eventualy go on its own? Because i just feel like giving up at this point as its so time consuming to make diatilled water daily and wash a ton of clothes and iron daily and washing my hands like a crazy person. I also bath him twice a day out of desperation to get rid of it and to make sure it doesnt spread. Its just getting depressing at this point. Ive thrown away dummies and toothbrush also. If it doesnt go in the next week i feel like ill just give up on trying to treat it.

https://www.laleche.org.uk/thrush/#treatment. Looks like there are oral treatments that you can try if you can get a gp to prescribe them

When I complained to my GP about thrush in the breast I asked for the fluconzaline as suggested in the Breast feeding network link mentioned above.

This is the same as the Canestan tablets that you can buy over the counter.

The single dose didn't work for me but I ordered the generic version (at least £8 cheaper than the Over the counter Canestan) and followed the protocol from the breastfeeding link to keep medicating each day.

This in combination with using the grapefruit seed extract really seemed to help - my symptoms cleared up within 4-5 days. It sounds like your grapefruit seed extract protocol you're following is already good.

You seem to be doing everything right so I'd suggest trying to clear from the inside with the Fluconzaline (spelt wrong!)

You have my sympathies.. this happen to me when my daughter was around 1.5 and the pain was agony. Luckily for me she is well established on solids so I could say no to nursing... one breast in particular was really sore for me so I limited feeds on that side.

I had no issues with supply or blocked ducts but I attribute that to nursing a toddler - if your baby is younger you're going to have to be more careful. I really do feel for you because it was agony and I had no ideas how mamas of younger babies continued nursing through the pain!

Good luck and keep on keeping on... you've come so far that it's worth one more try to get rid of your symptoms.

When I had thrush I was given advice to avoid sugar and any products containing yeast (you would be surprised at how many foods contain yeast)
This, with the treatments we were given did work.
