Coping with sciatica?!

I am on holiday and am really suffering from sciatica. It's not diagnosed by a GP but I had it when pregnant and recognise the pain! It's right in my left hip and runs down through my thigh and bottom and down the leg. I'm taking ibuprofen which is numbing the pain. I can sit and walk and lie but moving between any of them is excruciating-turning in bed last night was agony!

I will seek medical help when I get home but has anyone got any tips to get me through the next 6 days?!

Don't sit or stand or walk for too long. I.e. if you are sitting by the pool, every 15 mins or so have a little wander for a couple of minutes. Try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your thighs. Eat lots of ice cream, it wont help with the pain, but any excuse, right?

Were you the one posting the other day? I looked up sciatica only to read that a naprapath or osteopath might treat it sometimes, so perhaps check with the hotel if they can arrange an emergency treatment for tomorrow if you feel that could be helpful.

Can you get hold of naproxen? It's in Feminax Ultra. I have sciatica and am on prescription cocodamol, but sometimes the pain is so bad that only the naproxen touches it. I'm on the waiting list for a steroid injection into my back prior to a denervation, which hopefully will help.

I have no advice but following as I've suffered with this for over a year and a half, since halfway through my pregnancy and it's awful! I've been given tablets by the doctor but I don't want to constantly be on tablets every day for it and would rather find an alternative method Sad

Google piriformis stretch
It's amazing
You can almost feel it working straight away!
I was suffering terribly yesterday, did 20 mins of gentle Pilates/stretches and the sciatica is mostly gone this morning
Also Make sure you lie with a pillow in between your legs!

And in the long term I would highly recommend joining a Pilates class! It's changed my life!

YouTube yoga for Sciatica and see if you can squeeze some in - it's a lifesaver for me when I travel!

I also take Naproxen 500 mg from the doctor, the only thing that helps when I'm bad. Just something to consider when you get back.

Don't sit, just stand or lie. Sitting is so bad for discs! If you lie down on your side put a pillow between your knees, or try on your back with a pillow under your knees

Lie flat on your back and slowly raise each leg, bent at the knee, to your chest. Move as far as you can to each side as much as you can.

Lie on your front, hands flat on floor, using your hands, raise your torso keeping your hips and legs on the floor. Lots of info on McKenzie Method on google.

Good luck. I feel for you. In agony myself.
