I have acidentally taken too many ibruprofen these past few days - was told I could take a higher dose then I could. Anyway I am ok but feel very very sick and a bit dizzy.

The Dr says I am fine but have upset my stomach lining. I feel shit already at the moment so this is just the final bloody straw.

What can I take to feel better and settle my stomach? I am desparate and feel so stupid I really do not want to vomit.

What did the doctor recommend? Could you stomach some milk? It is supposed to line the stomach.

mummydoc · 29/03/2007 14:31

hi try some milk or gaviscon or any antacid type stuff. the ibuprofen irritates the stomach lining and then the stomach acid burns the irritated bits ( a basic explanantion) you can neutralise things for a while with food or milk or gaviscon. gaviscon advance is the best.

Nothing He just asked me what i ahd been taking - I told him he said thats too many thats why you feel so sick. I only went to the GP for some more painkillers and mentioned feeling very sick and he said it was the ibruprofen dose.

Might try some milk. Cheers

Oh great! My idea is seconded by a doctor!

What is causing the pain, Smurfgirl? It sounds bad, whatever it is.

Smurfgirl · 29/03/2007 14:35

I had my wisdom teeth out and apparently have a low pain threshold. Am on anti-bs as well which doesn't help with me feeling sick!

I will get my partner to pick me up some gaviscon after he finishes work, I feel too queasy to go outside!! Thanks again.

Ibuprofen makes me feel terribly sick - can't take it at all. I do sympathise. Antacids are the best bet. Could the doctor not prescribe some pain killing suppositories? that is what everybody has in Europe and USA.

mummydoc · 29/03/2007 16:25

unfortunately the suppositories have simialer problems as it is the active ingrediant in ibuprofen which gets into the blood stream that then attacks stomach lining ( it also can make you produce more acid) so just because you don't actually swallow it down into the stomach problem is the same. BTW i had wisdom teeth out 2 yrs ago - it was bloody awful pain especially if they are infected, i overdosed on all painkillers i could get my hands on and washed it all down with whiskey ( not good confession for a doc i know but i was desparate) . ask you gp for some codeine based painkillers , low pain threshold...ba humbug ( snorts in disgust )

Thanks for the advice and sympathy. I was on co-codamol but went to the gp for something stronger and he put me on dihydrocodeine so maybe that will be better. I took some before and it knocked me out a bit I think - but at least I was not feeling any pain.

Will get some gaviscon, not quite brave enough to go out again today so my dp will get it for me!
