HELP! dd just fallen from high chair - advice needed please

my dd, 7 months, has just slipped from her high chair - totally my fault as i hadnt strapped her in, the tray seems to be broken and she had pushed it forward and slipped out from underneath it. she slipped about 50 cm to the floor. she didnt land with a clonk, more a graceful slither and she didnt cry. she is now playing with her toys, laughing, bouncing etc while i have been here in tears. do i need to take her to the docotrs or just keep a close eye on her?

i am sooooo angry with myself and feel so guilty - she doesnt seem remotely bothered.

any advice most welcome. thank you.

If she playing happily then I wouldnt worry, and dont feel guilty these things happen to everyone.

3littlefrogs · 29/03/2007 08:11

If she didn't hit her head and seems fine, just keep an eye on her. We've all been there - honestly.

If you search back on my posts from 2004, I posted more or less this message about my DS who wasn't much older than 7 months!

I actually went to my local NHS drop in centre but they said don't worry because he is fine.

I'd say that you should just keep an eye on her and if you notice anything remotely different about her behaviour then call NHS direct or take her to a drop in centre if you have one near you. You could call them anyway, if you are just too worried and it would make you feel better that you'd had her checked over.

Accidents happen to everyone. Try not to beat yourself up about it.

thank you so much for your reassurances - far better than dh's "get a grip" before he went to work
she didnt seem to bang her head - more a sort of legs first slither under the tray and out.
all feeding will be in her bumbo on the floor from now on
thanks again x

I'll have to ask DH about this one... he's the one who's done it .

olivo · 29/03/2007 08:32

pippi - thats partly what is making me feel worse - i am forever saying to dh ' dont do that ith her, it's not safe!' and then i go and do this!

dd has just had a five minute bout of crying but is now happily chomping on my watch.
still shaking myself.....

Oh don't worry olivo she'll be fine!

DH was mortified, and I am surprised he even had the courage to tell me - I was out - as I kept saying for week that we should watch her etc. But I did not get upset at all, this things can happen to everyone any time. that's just the beginning. she's fallen from the bed, the sofa just when you turn your eyes.

The good thing is, she's never tried to climn out of it again!

IntergalEGGticWalrus · 29/03/2007 08:39

DS1 did the same thing, and I panicked, and was a right mess.

DS2 is the same age as your DD, and did the same last week. I just said "never mind" and brushed him down

Babies are hardy little things.

Just keep an eye on her. If she shows any signs of concvussion, go to A&E without hesitation.
