Anyone had intravenous iron infusions?

I'm struggling with the side effects of iron supplements and my iron levels are still low (9.6).
My GP wants to refer me for intravenous infusions.
I'm a bit apprehensive as I've read online you can get some horrible side effects and I'm worried that, unlike tablets, which I can stop if I get side effects, I obviously can't do this with the infusions.
Has anyone has this and how was it?

The first one I had was after a badly managed large PPH - my haemoglobin was 6.8 before the estimated 1.5l blood loss. I was pretty much non functional - any activity made me breathless & dizzy. I couldn't manage more than a couple of steps & looked like a walking corpse (seriously looking back on photos now is shocking - I was too ill at the time to realise how ill I was).

The other ones were prophylactic so I had them if my Hb went down to 10.5 in pregnancy - I've had a lot of bleeding pist delivery in all 4 pregnancies but wanted to reduce the risk going in anaemia & of needing a transfusion.

Can you get Sytron without a prescription?

laniakea I know that state of anemia well. I had a mismanaged bleed (not pph though minor op) on already low iron stores.
I was breathless, dizzy, tachycardic and looked like the walking dead in photos, I also didn't realise how ill I was even after my Gp ordered me straight to hospital for a transfusion the day he got blood results back, I apparently had less than 4 pints of blood in my body. He was shocked I was still alive, let alone functioning.

I have no idea why my iron levels have dropped so low again though.
