Piles are getting me so down

I hurt so much. Constantly having to take Epsom salt baths to deal with the pain. Have been eating lots of fruit /veg/fibre/water but tbh I feel this makes them worse?! Was away at the weekend, out of normal routine and didn't go to the loo at all on Friday and Saturday, went on Sunday and the pain was minimal which made me think going to the loo every day is a bad thing?

I went twice yesterday and so far 3 times today Sad, am in agony both during (have to breath through it) then afterwards it hurts constantly, sometimes for a few hours.

I use suppositries, prep H gel, wipes and constant painkillers.

Had them banded in March which helped for approximately a month then they came back. Waiting to see the consultant again. Also had a tear accordingly to the GP about 2 months ago when I went in to be referred again.

What can I do? Is so painful. Going on boat soon and I feel miserable. It affects my sleep. GP won't prescribe anything else.

Fibre will bulk up your poo. In theory this is good for constipation, but if you've got piles or fissures (a tear) then fibre will be worse.

You need to keep your poo soft and easy, no straining at all. Ask gp for movicol. This will keep you soft and regular. Ask for uniroid ointment. It's the best one I've found for shrinking everything back. Drink a glass of prune juice every night. This is brilliant for making sure you don't strain.

Get a foot stool and raise your feet when you go to the toilet. It helps straighten things out internally so it's easier to go. Buy a sitz bath from Amazon to bathe your behind, it fits over the toilet.

If things are swollen then using ice really helps. Good luck.

Thank you Funnyface. I will do those things and hope they work. It really gets me down.

Hi OP

Awful for you. I had this problem years ago, did all what you did but I think what really helped (on top of all you're already doing) was exercise. I know it's the last thing you feel like doing though.

I also went to a Chinese herbalist (in utter desperation) he said something about circulation and gave me something. (I can't remember sorry) Seems to right itself pretty quickly afterwards.

Thank you Polly, I will definitely try that too. Glad it helped you.

I know exactly how you feel. I have finally had about two months without the pain after a year and a half of misery- started during pregnancy and continued after birth. I have found the following has helped me:
*lots of water

  • feet on a low stool when on the loo (found this uncomfortable to start with but has def helped) *prunes on porridge for breakfast every day. *washing with coconut oil *using moist toilet tissue

Hope you're much better soon. I know how miserable it is!

Thanks mamma, I'm glad you're pain free now. There is hope!
