Horrible shoulder pain, can't sleep, need magic or MN wisdom

3 year old asleep next to me ie I can't go anywhere. If I ring 111 can they actually help or only listen to me complain? Should I try bandages, ice or gin?

I have painkillers from GP, had x-ray this morning, had to ring for more painkillers (naproxen) late afternoon but pharmacy didn't get prescription in time so took some ibuprofen on top of zapain.

It's that kind of pain where I can't think properly + bad sleep last night.

Bugger

Btw no definite diagnosis but torn rotator cuff plus something else mentioned as possibility Friday also something mutter mutter clavicle (different GP) previously. Really hurts (may have mentioned that).

Any suggestions including pull yourself together, LTB and Cake appreciated.

I'm really sorry that I don't have any advice (I was going to say about using a hot water bottle, until I read about your 3yo next to you), I didn't want you to go unanswered

That sounds painful! I'd try putting a small pillow under your arm (between your arm and body if you lie on your side) to take the pressure off the muscles and an ice pack could help reduce some of the inflammation.
How did you do it if you don't mind me asking?

PearlyG8 · 08/08/2017 00:20

Thank you both. I don't know what I did originally but I then had to keep going with some fairly heavy work and did some more damage. I may well have had a crunch at some point so there could be a slight fracture. The 3 year old is very lively and means totally resting it when not working is also impossible. Feel like an idiot but don't know what i could have done differently tbh.

I can't find a comfortable position even with pillows moan moan.

Torn rotator cuff is the most excruciating pain I ever had - worse than childbirth, kidney stones and others.
Naproxen was useless for me. Couldn't sleep for three nights and was in tears and weak with the pain. Finally got prescription changed to Cocodamol and that worked for the pain. There were side effects but in the short term it was worth it.
You have my utmost sympathy. If naproxen doesn't work for you, go straight back to the GP for something stronger.

For me it was useless lying down. I sat on the sofa with the shoulder propped up on a pile of cushions and kept it as still as possible.

PearlyG8 · 08/08/2017 01:23

Oh thank you robinia, I got up to make Brew and found that lying down was half the problem. Now I've read your experience I'll prop myself up properly in bed. Certainly points to rotator cuff injury.

Horrendously I have to do a some lifting and moving tomorrow that I can't really get out of, will be attempting everything one handed.

Thank Goodness for Mumsnet Flowers

You have my deepest sympathies: horrific kind of pain.

Please try and rest it - I know it's hard but really long term you aren't doing yourself or anyone else any favours.

PearlyG8 · 08/08/2017 05:31

You are right, I have to find a way to rest it.
