I've suffered from Chronic Urricaria with Angioedema for many years. I'm having a severe flare up right now. I went to my GP today as I needed more medicine but I was also concerned as a lot of bruising had appeared on my legs. I've ever had this before. He told me it "looked very superficial" and was nothing to worry about.

I'm unsure though. I know you should never rely on google as a source but I'm a little concerned about Urticarial Vasculitis. I saw this online after my appointment and it's made me question if the GP has made the right call?

Should I make another appointment with a different GP or should I trust what this GP has said?

Thank you.

Oh Love that looks so painful, I have no advice but just giving this a little bump in hope a medical professional will see this.

AdrenalineJunkie5 · 09/08/2017 10:53

I could really do with someone knowledgable and experienced seeing this. Thank you zero.

Have you ever had a referral? I saw an urticaria specialist at hospital who was great

AdrenalineJunkie5 · 09/08/2017 13:04

I've been given ranitidine to try along side the fexofenadine and steroids. I hope this does the trick.

Yeah ranitidine is a something inhibitor, it can work really well (I can't remember off hand the proper title!) I tried it with fexo too

AdrenalineJunkie5 · 09/08/2017 18:10

I took the ranitidine at 12.30 and it's looking a million times better. I don't want to get too excited and ahead of myself because one thing I've learned is, just because it's looking better now, doesn't mean it will in an hour or two. I have my fingers and toes crossed though.

My adult DD has a similar history and symptoms. Also lots of steroids and permanent anti histamines (for about 20 years). She's being investigated now re MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) so it may be worth having a look at that online. Best wishes. It's really tough.

Hi Adreniline, I’m a bit late to the party but I have Urticarial Vasculitus so understand how you feel. It took years to get a firm diagnosis as most GP’s aren’t really knowledgable about it so you really do need to keep going until you get a referral to an immunologist. Diagnosis is done by either bloods or skin biopsy. There a Facebook support group if you’re interested, mostly American so some of the medical advice isn’t useful but good for moral support. I’ve has a rough week this week, ended up with a steroid injection at A&E when my hives got so swollen my skin started splitting. Do jeep going back to your GP Flowers I hope you’re doing ok and you get to see this! Picture attached of my current state Shock

I’m 70 years old and have had urticarial vasculitis from birth. I have it every morning on waking. If I’ve slept with one leg touching the other or my feet in one position all night or if the wife has had her arms or legs on me then there’s the “red patch”.
It’s taken me from birth until I was 69 to find out what it was. Mine is caused by heat or pressure on my skin. I can stay out in the hot sun for about 10 minutes only
I served in the Royal Navy as a stoker (boiler room or engine room). I was fine down there so long as the ventilation system was blowing on me. I couldn’t sit down on anything as it would “burn” me. Whenever in tropical places always made myself to go indoors.
My specialist now at Shrewsbury hospital has prescribed drug after drug and nothing has worked for me. The last one I had was cyclosporine which weakened my immunity system but didn’t work.
